Paint Running Off
Permalink

My mom and I are trying our hand at Reborning. We started off using the Klean-Strip Green, That ended up bad! Both dolls looked like they were bright Red! We cleaned then back to square 1 with Goof Off and then with alcohol. So then we bought Klean-strip mineral spirits, the paint looked funny. Now we have Klean-strip thinner with mineral spirits. My doll is 26 years old and it took the paint very well even though it would run down like there was a lot on the vinyl. I could Dab it away, mine dried and baked well. My mom has BB Punkin, it would not dry and no matter how much we dabbed it still looked like it was sliding off and she stayed oily. My mom tried The other Punkin doll that i was going to do before I changed my mind. It did the same thing, the paint just rolled off on to the floor. Both Punkin dolls have been cleaned now, and as I have read on here, they have been cleaned in hot soapy water after being cleaned with alcohol. We are so lost, and my mom is very flustered. Can anyone help? Another thing, is the paint thinner supposed to be oily? We have the little jars of Genesis heat set paint.

Sorry Cassie, I must have missed posting to this one.

1st, I'm glad you have found your way to our little family forum, both you and your mom. I know I have not answered any questions about drippy/runny paints before. Usually that will happen when you have way too much thinner in your paint. Hmmmm... maybe I read this post before, now that I think about it... I thought I had already answered. Curious.
Well anyway, if you have the Authentic Reborn Paints, then you don't need to add any type of thinner as it is already in them.
2nd, NEVER, never use Goof-Off or anything like that. It is not only toxic but it gets into the viny/vinyl-siliconel and leaves a residue even if you wash it. When removing old paint or stripping back your doll, use beauty-grade acetone and apply to a cotton ball and then gently apply to doll but NO rubbing as it can cause your paint not to stick. It smooths the vinyl too much and won't take paint.

As far as your BB doll kits, they are mostly silicone-vinyl kits and sometimes have to be painted with the matte sealer. They are very rubbery and quite different to work on. I have many.
I hope this helps you and your mom. Please use the search feature at the top of the page in the red bar to help you find more threads on the subjects you need too! HUGS, :D
