Hi there and welcome to the forum!

Well, to me an average cost for one doll is about $70 when I include all the costs - kit, eyes, body, mohair and shipping. But that's only because I'm living in Europe and ordering everything from USA. The shipping costs are horrible.

It took me a few days to paint my first doll, and about a week to root it. So, take a deep breath, relax and enjoy this new activity. I'm sure you're gonna love it :)

well if you're lucky enough to get a kit for 30 ,the body for13 ,eyes 8 ,hair for 20 and 60 for paints brushs,thinner. thats to get started........paint/thinner and hair wise it'll be a bit cheaper your second baby as you'll have what you already bought...........i started on babies found at thrift shops........you can and i do find lee middleton dolls there........it takes the stress out of the first few cos if you mess up its only a 2-3 doller doll ................sage

I think the most costly things in the beginning are the paints, sponges, brushes, etc... all the stuff you need to start, not including the kit, etc. like Sage said. But in the long run, you do save because you usually get several kits out of 1 time purchase on the supplies. So this makes them a real deal.
Take a look on secristdolls.com and see what all is in a starter kit so you know what you'll need to start.

Or you can go the less expensive route and just get on of the 6" mini kits with 2-3 colors to see how you like the shortened version before you delve in too deep. :D
