Will be biracial, but not dark. Looking forward to working more on her tomorrow. First coat on, then second darker, warmer coat, then mottling. Creases and veins tomorrow. Taking my time with this one as well. I just can't sit for hours working on them. She'll go up for sale when she's done, but I will definitely keep you posted with progress. Should be interesting to see how the next few coats of paint will muffle the mottling.
Painted with 1st coat:
Next 2 pix show mottling from different angles. This is after a second coat of warmer darker coloring:

Thanks for sharing! So far, so good! Can't wait to see her done!
What mohair do you plan to use? I've got me a nice black curly premium mohair, once I make my first biracial, I'll root it with that one. It will be Olive by Jessica Schenk! :)
I have some brownish mohair, still on the hide, that Pat sent to me. It'll have to be sparsely rooted, since there is not a lot of it, but it's all I've got. I just don't have the $$ to order any more right now.
Looking good nice coloring I can"t wait to see her finished, I love that sculpt I love her juicy lips lol I made her a boy with blond hair, when I start reborning again I gonna make an AA girl of the sculpt.
Dee, I think it was the lips for me too on this one.
I have a question for you, because I know you use the ADP as well. I'm having a heck of a time getting the veins and creasing to show up. I can't do the veins because I can't see where I put them once it dries....and the creases just don't want to show up at all. Any suggestions, before I just use the GHSP for those areas?
Hi Kim, I had the same problem with the veins so I used a blue water color pencil I used it dry then use a damp wedge sponge to dab to smooth it out, as for the creases if they didn't show I just darkened the paint, that usually works for me, if that does'nt work for you I would probably use a primer. Good luck let me know how it goes if you try it.
Mine is still in the box I got her in. Kudos for starting her. I think she is going to be lovely. I might do mine as a biracial little boy. We'll see what the sculpt wants to be. Won't be for a whle yet though. Keep up the good work!
I'm also thinking of starting my first biracial doll. I have an Olive by J. Schenk, got soooo lucky on an ebay auction :D I've got to be extra careful, though, since she's so limited and all :) I think she'll be perfect for biracial, she reminds me a lot of my little 5 year old friend when she was a baby.
HOW do you get them to show up?? I paint them, they dry, and I can't see where I painted. So I repeat, and same thing. Maybe since I've got layers of paint on now, it will show up.
Also, are the veins as evident on biracial babies as they are on Caucasian? Are they still as blue? Or a darker color?
Next question. Pat, the hair you sent me (pic included) in case you don't recall, do you think that will cover all of Kyra's head? Or should I mix it with the blondish-brown I have here that I used on David Michael? (Never mind....I think I just answered my question on that one. I'll be mixing it. LOL But how do I get it off the hide? Do I just take scissors to it, and short cut it?
I can't wait to see her finished, about the veining on a bi racial baby or light "skinned" AA baby you can see the veins but on a darker AA baby they are barely seen, maybe you should use darker vein coloring, I can't see the veins on the baby in my avatar I painted them but I can't see them.

I haven't tried air dried paints, got so used to GHSP that I wouldn't use anything else. It would be nice Liselle if you could right on a piece of paper the color of the layers you are doing. will see if I can add a pic of one of mine. I did as a swap, I wanted to keep it, the on I got back even though it was my kit jjust didn't grow on me. JIMHO I think the brows could be a bit long but they are a bit hard to see, or it is my glasses. Had my eyes tested today and am getting new ones in about 2 weeks. XXXXX June
If I could recall the colors I used, I would write it down. My paints are from BnB, so they're no longer available, and I just kind of start mixing them until I get a color I like. I try to make enough only for that batch, and it's enough to just cover the body parts that I need for that layer. If I'm lucky, I get 2 layers out of the mix.
My camera isn't capturing the true color of it...I wish it would.
Dee, HELP!!! I was putting eyes in and she got scratched up by my nails! WHY is the paint coming off?? I know you use the ADP as well, have you ever had this problem? And how do I fix it?
Oh no! I did that on the arm of one of mine before I sealed it, but I did'nt want to try to get the same color again so I made it a scratch with a light red color then sealed it, I would try to get the color as close as possible and carefully sponge paint on the area then reseal it I hope this helps.

Ok. Thanks!! There are several scratches, so I'm going to try to color match it. Being that this is BnB paints, what am I supposed to seal it with? I'm not even sure I have it.
Ok, great! Glad you said use thinner. That was going to be my next question. Thanks!!
I think I'm going to go ahead and seal her, I've gone as far as I want to on her coloring. I've attempted veins a couple of times, and a few of them are visible, but I'm not going to paint any more on her.
Ok, this next rant is for those of you who use air dry paints (ADP)
I am getting severely ticked off because the ADP keeps scratching off. I'm testing it in inconspicuous places, and even after 2 coats of thinned ultra matte (from the now out of business Bloomers N Bows) it is STILL easily scratched off. What is going on??
How long do I have to wait for the paint to "cure"? And how many coats of Ultra Matte should I put on there??
Someone please help before I have to strip the whole thing and start over.
Could this be an issue because I didn't wash the kit beforehand? It's BB's own Kyra, and I see no evidence of oiliness or anything, but I'm grasping at straws here. I'm so ticked.
I'm sorry you are having problems, it could be many things, I always wash my babies and I use 2 coats of sealer but I don't seal it until it dries for a few days, could be that the paint is old, I had some paints left from B n B I threw it away because it's been a good while since I used them, I hope you don't have to strip her I love her coloring, good luck.
I don't know, we don't know how long Elena had then before we got them I do know some of mine dried up so I just figured they were old and threw them all away because I have had then a couple years.
Yeah, phlebotomy. I've been so nervous about it this past week that I've literally almost made myself sick. I'm talking full blown nausea, and not sleeping sick. Can't wait till Monday night, when I will have met the people I'll be working with and have a couple of sticks under my belt and I won't be as nervous.
I am doing my clinical internship right now, and I'm not able to work on Kyra. I checked last week when I was at the house for a while and I was still able to scratch the paint off, even after a couple of coats of Ultra Matte. But I haven't had the time to work on her for a few weeks.
I have begun stripping her color. I wish I didn't have to, but I don't know what else to do. I really liked her color, but I just don't see any other options. I wasn't able to finish stripping her, but clinicals are almost over, and hopefully I can get back to her soon.
