Hi everyone, I'm new here I haven't reborned any dolls yet, but I'm almost done sculpting a little clay baby and I'm practicing reborning on some small kid's dolls using acrylic paints before I spend a lot on a kit, so I can decide if I like it or not.
I'm just a bit wary of heat set paints, and I don't have a seperate oven to use for them if I do ever use them. So, I know most reborners use heat set paints, but I was wondering if it would be acceptable to use acrylic paints. It seems to have worked on my 'practice' dolls but I'd love to know if any of you have tried reborning with acrylic paints and see how it turned out. I've also seen a few kits for sale with acrylic paints. Basically, are acrylic paints or genesis heat set paints better for a complete newbie? Thanks so much!
Hi hun and welcome to the art of newborning (reborning) and our forum. For many many years people used the acrylic paints and they seemed to work fine... however, they tend to not be permanent and the paint will migrate over time in the vinyl and cause bruising. If you use the "search" feature at the top of the forum page in the red bar, and type in acrylic, bruising, or anything to do with paints or painting, you will get many threads that talk about this subject. You can take your time reading about the different experiences and issues that other reborners have had.
If you have any questions please be sure to come in again and ask. We're glad to answer them for you. We are here to help but not to teach you from scratch how to reborn. Secrist has many things on reborning to help you... dvd's, books, etc. and we are always here for you too. :D
Thanks very much! I'm not such a newbie any more I guess, although I am to reborning. I never knew acrylic paints did that, thanks so much for the advice :)
