Good Morning,

I was just wondering if my post went through.  I keep getting logged off.  I'm not sure what is going on with this.  Anyway, I am going to be starting my old man and old woman dolls from Secrist soon and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips.  I am going to make a set of the Mr and Mrs Claus dolls also.  I would appreciate any help I can get!!

Thanks!!

Tami

Hello and welcome to our family forum Tami!

As far as help hun, what are you looking for? If you could give us some additional questions or what you are looking for as far as help, that would get you some better, more specific answers hun.
Also, you can use the "search" feature at the top of the page in the red bar. Just click on it and type your word, then click for it to search for you. Again, welcome to forum!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I guess I just need any pointers on any differences in making these dolls and making the baby dolls.  I know that older people don't have the same skin textures as baby's do.  I just want the dolls to look as realistic as possible (as we all do).  I also heard that to make the Santa and Mrs. Claus dolls, that you might want to add alittle extra clay to the cheek area to get the right look.  Any pointers on that?  I don't really work with clay alot.  Also, what size clothing might I look for?  They say that they are 36 inches.  A realistic Santa and Mrs. Claus outfit in these sizes?

Those are just some of my questions.  I have been told that I have more questions than a kindergartner.  I'm sure that this could be true!!!

Thanks for all your help.  I need as much as I can get!!

Thanks,

Tami

One of my suggestions would be to look through books with Mr & Mrs Claus. Look at real people for the basic skintones, google Santa to see what you get. I'm sure there are more pics in there than you can shake a stick at, or ask June on the painting as like she said, she does/did porcelains.
I too have the old couple and making them into the Clauses. I havent had time to start them though. As far as clothes, they are supposed to wear 18mos to 2T depending on tops or bottoms. I think they wear size 9 childrens shoes/boots. I took a leg with me for shoe shopping lol

I think the clay add ons for the cheeks is subjective and doesn't really need to be done, I know I'm not doing that.

I have white angora goat hair so I'll be hand rooting the heads and the beard/brows. I know it will take me some time :o

I can't believe that you are going to root the whole doll!!!!!  Whew, that is alot!!  I have been looking at clothes.  I can't seem to find an outfit that I like.  That was a good idea to take the leg with you although,if someone had seen you, that could have caused a scare.  I still can't wait to start.  I need to take care of my basement first.  You know what they say about all play and no work (or is that the other way around!! Tee-hee).  Can't wait to see your work too.

Taking the leg with was actually a hoot! People were more curious than scared. And I had business cards with me too just in case lol.

I also took a whole porcelain bent knee leg with me when I was making one of my porcelain dolls. It had a ruffled sock on it too! It was pretty cool I thought. And I got her just the right Mary Janes, black patent leather hehehe.

Yes, rooting the head and the beard is quite the undertaking. I may not be done with it before Christmas but IF I sell him he will command quite the price, don't you think? I am considering making a "Father Christmas" outfit instead of purchasing a ready-made but in a pinch, a kids ready made will work. It can always be altered. kwim?
