You can do 1 of 2 things...
you can either use a paint brush (00 script liner brush) and pluck a few hairs out of it, or...
you can get a Prismacolor pencil and sharpen it really pointed and draw them on with that. If you use the pencil, you'll have to set it aside for a few days for the color to sink in.
Make the veins in between the fleshtones to make it more realistic.

I used a brush & turned out really nice. Thank you. Now, if I could find a place to train to become a master doll artist I could learn it all & then teach too.

Just a thought...I haven't tried it yet, but if you have cats, you MIGHT could use one of their whiskers to paint with. Although I don't know whether that would mess with someone's allergies....any thoughts on that?

Follow the cat around until it looses a whisker? lol Ya can't just cut one off, that's not a good idea :o and I'm sure kitty would probably run if someone was following them with sissors :D

For classes, look in upcoming events and classes to see if there's anyone close to you that offers classes. I am in Minneapolis, MN and I offer classes.

LOL Pat! My kitties lose those long whiskers all the time. I'm constantly finding them on the floor. I didn't mean to cut one off!! That would be mean!

I wonder though if it would cause an allergic reaction to someone who has allergies to cats, if you used a whisker to put paint on. I suppose you could wash it first.

Kim, you are so funny. I know you weren't meaning cut them off hahaha. I have 4 cats and I only find whiskers from the old queen and then only about once a month lol.

As far as someone having a reaction... I don't suspect that it would cause any. They make paint brushes out of sable and other animals hairs and stuff. And the paints get baked anyway. Guess I'll stick to my 000 liner brush :D

I just thought that the really long whisker would be a good thin brush for those itty bitty veins.

I've always had trouble knowing exactly where to put the veins so I ordered the Secrist vein chart for the head and limbs. I got it today and I can't wait to try some new ways on my next doll. I always put the veins on first before I do anything. That seems to work for me. I also do what Pat recommends and use the 00 brush and pluck out a few hairs. I do have a persion cat and his whiskers got so long I had to trim them. He's not quite two yet and I guess they havn't started falling out yet. I never thought of using them for itty bitty veins. I think I'll just stick with my brush but you never know. hehe

I think I might order the vein chart. I have the 00 brush. Our 6 yr old grandson watches me paint the dolls & he noticed the veins in my leg & said, "Grandma, you can paint the dolls like your leg. You have veins there." I use him for vein placement some times. He's willing to let me ck him out. Thanks for all the help ladies. Lynne

Lynne, lots of people order the vein chart. Pat Secrist and his wife got their first grandchild so Pat studied her for veins, wrinkles, etc. lol. Your grandson is pretty smart about the veins lol and glad he lets you use him as a model. :D
