Here I am getting ready to sell my reborn doll and while I was taking pics of it, I noticed on a couple of the toes that the off-white nail tips had somehow rubbed off!! Now I understand why people on their auctions say that they seal the nails with varnish. But I didn't think that was necessary because Genesis Heat set paints are supposed to be permanent!! I used flesh 08 Genesis heat set paints to make the tips. I'm wondering if I can use either the Secrist glazing gel, 3D textured medium, matte varnish sealer, or even Alenes paper glaze from my arsenal to seal the white nail tips so they don't wear off. Or is there something I can run to Michael's craft store or the local hardware store and pick up real quick to do the job? Please advise!----Jaden
It is recomended that you use the glazing gel to seal the nails as it gives a satiny shine instead of a shiny shine. When I teach my students to do the nails, I put down the nail color and bake. Then I brush on a light coat of glazing gel and then before I bake, I put on the tips with flesh 08, then bake. It makes the tips apply better and then basically is mixed with the gel. Be sure to put on just a thin coat of gel and also a thin coat of the 08.
Thanks Pat and Sage!!! I was at a doll show this last weekend where their were some reborn artists selling their babes. One lady who reborns dolls just came to the show to check it out like I did. She has been reborning dolls for about 2 years. She was really excited when I told her about how helpful this forum was--she had not even heard of Secrist!! I gave her this website and she was delighted to have a place to get her questions answered. She wants to make an ethnic doll so I told her about the Encyclopedia Part 1 dvd. Secrist might need to start paying me a commision for the free PR!!! Ha! Ha! --Jaden
You are welcome :D That is great that you connected with another reborner and also that you were able to give her information on our family forum. I hope she comes in and joins us :D
I think what happens is the tip is a little bit thick....(paint mixture) and it kinda gets knocked off. What I use that I like on my nails (not mine personally lol although it might work) is by Delta Exterior/Interior satin varnish. It gives a nice shine, but not glossy and seals it all nice. I haven't had any complaints. Also for my color I take some red o2 and red 05 and mix with glazing get and work in the middle of the two colors (the 05 is like a light peach) and I also use that for lips, but add a touch of the p. blue 04 That gives a really nice color and I also like Stephanie Sullivans lip and nail glaze. In case anyone is interested lol
