Toddler tutorial
Permalink

biggrinhello everybody,
I'm so newbie that I haven't still start any baby. I'm scared to waste the beautiful Angelica and Arianna from Reva Schick.
What I'm the more afraid of is rooting.  Does it exist a tutorial special on toddlers. What are the difference in painting them? The toddlers have not the same capillarities!
And how to root them? confuse.gif There's something that I don't understand. In Pat Secrist DVD, Stephanie Sullivan shows how to root in the middle of the strand, so, if the strand length is 21", length in the toddler head will be half? or not?
In internet, I saw all the Angelicas with long hair, some with wigs but a lot beautifully rooted.
A dvd for toddlers would be very helpful.
How much hair in Arianna head, how much in Angelica
How split the weight in the body?
Sorry if I look totally stupid but I lack of self confidence and I prefer to collect the most information possible before fulling the head of holes without any hair staying on.biggrin.gif
Thank you to help me

Hello Chantal and welcome to our family forum! You'll like it here, we have all kinds of artists in here, lots of questions and answers. If you need an answer right away be sure to use our "search" feature.

I have Riva's Ariella too and have her half painted. Since she is a larger baby I won't do all the mottling that a newborn infant has. I will still do all the veins and capillaries, kind of in between newborn and toddler peaches-n-cream complexion.
My suggestion, instead of making one of them your very first reborn, would be to get a less expensive kit and try that first. You could even go with a preemie or 19" kit to work on first. Lots of newbies try a closed eyed baby first. Less of a challenge.

As far as rooting, the dvd is good except for the rooting in the middle of the hair. You are right, if you root in the middle, then the hair will be half as long. I root from about 1-2 inches from the cut end. As you root more you will get better. I would say to use a 40-42 guage needle.

I would say 1/2 to 1 oz should be good for rooting her head. We have lots of questions and answers on rooting. If you use the search feature you can just put in rooting and it should bring up all the threads for you.
IMHO, I think Ariella should weigh between 6.5-7.7 pounds. At least that's what I'm going to weight mine at.

Good luck and come back in and search, read, and ask questions.

Thank you very much for this complete answer. I've been training rooting  mohair in soft skin small cheap dolls. I tried then with human hair but I couldn't get it. The hair broke and of 10" it stayed just 1 or 2" (when it stayed something and it was 1 on 10 times). I'll wig Angelica for sure but I think I'd rather to root Arianna with mohair? I don't know how to find a very good quality and long enough (about 10-12") because i read on the forums that sometimes mohair tangle.

For the skin, you're right, I'm going to try with dolls I have at home. Then for Angelica and Arianna, my painting teacher (painting on wooden items or canvas) will spend a day with me and we'll make it together. She was interested by the project when i told her and I showed her pictures of beautiful reborns. I'm not a talented artist but she is. I wouldn't waste so beautiful kits.

Thank you again (sorry for my "french errors of language").

hugs

Chantal
