Cat ate the hair off my head! Rooting ruined!

Okay so this is funny laughing.gif but not really  angered.gif So I begin to finish the rooting on my Finlay and as I check to see if I missed spots I notice a HUGE bald spot. I look at it closely to see what is wrong as I know I did that spot yesterday.

As I'm thinking Kitty (my black cat Keilana) comes up to me, gives me cutesy eyes and taps my arm. I tell her not now I'm trying to figure something out. She insists. I turn and look again at the rooting and notice there are holes where the hair used to be. I scratch my head and think wth??

Kitty is still trying to get my attention and purrs and chirps. I smile and talk to her....pet her.....

Kitty jumps up on the table (where she knows she is forbidden) and walks up to me. She blinks her bright yellow eyes and chirps again. I look at her. Then I look at the doll head. confuse

Kitty then comes up to the head and starts to sniff and paw at the hair.confuse Click! Click!
Keilanaaaaaa!!!!!!!! Stupid cat licked or ate the hair off the head!!!furious

Now I have a couple  of patches of hair missing, (with holes) and have to re-root them.
 Oh man!

My dilemma is....does anyone know if I put the head in the oven if it will close the holes? I looked here for a solution or the answer to that question but could not find one. I've re-rooted the hair but want to know how do I make the holes less obvious. Man, I'm fit-to-be-tied. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't finished yet. Now I knowno.

you can heat up the head with almost boiling water for a couple of secs then plunge the head straight into ice water this should close the holes............sage

I knowno it's so terrible. Usually I put a drop cloth over everything and she doesn't touch it. Last night I was tired and headed to bed. I looked right at the head and knew I should have covered it but figured ahhh it'll be okay.

I know it's funny and I do laugh but man was I mad! He's all done being rooted, it was just how to make the holes less obvious.

Sage thanks hun! How in the world have you been!? I'm getting ready to go make some ice so I can try that and see what happens. Will it boil off the mohair or make it come out? I haven't sealed it yet.....

I really do hope it gets better....it has been a rough two weekshmm

It should be just fine hun. I tried to search for that topic as I know there have been posts about it but it might have been in the old forum.

But do it like Sage said, almost boiling first for actually about 20 seconds I believe, then plunge immediately into ice water for about 1 minute. Then let it warm to room temp and don't touch until then. It won't make the hairs come out but you may end up with water in the head from the hair holes. But you can dry it out while you finish rooting. You poor thing, I'll bet that kitty won't touch your doll heads again. But she probably thought she did something good by grooming the hair. :)

I know she really did think she was doing something goodsmile I just wish she chose something that actually was good. I just took a pic of her. She was leaning on the table as she sat in the chair at the other end of the table watching me working on my new girl. She is something else. She thought I couldn't see her. I put her pic in works in progress.

I also tried the water technique but didn't do it long enough I guess. I can still see the holes. Oh well, at least it's not as noticable. Thanks for the help though.

You're very welcome hun. Hmmm, I'll have to go look at her pic. Sneeky little dickens! :)

I find that if you use the darker mohair you will see where the hairs are inserted into the head no matter what. I even did some one-hair micro-rooting on this last head and still saw the holes. I'm using a 43 guage needle.
