Hi, I have a question about the glazing gel. I put some layers of the glazing in my baby´s lips and eyes... but I bake it and it doesn´t shine! the lios have like 3 or 4 layers and it doesn´t work... I don´t know what to do because it becomes chalky instead of shiny...
hiya i have the same problem with the glazing gel it keeps going white and chalky which if frustrating, so ill be eagerly watching this post for some ideas xx

Thanks for the tip Honeyloves"! But I can´t accept the fact that the glazzing gel doesn´t shine! I mean, i pay for it =( and my doll is looking bad because of that...
When I seen glazing paint in the secrist book I thought that's what I want but I thought I would just go to the craft store and fine paper glaze instead but they didn't have any so instead I got glossy accents and it sounds like its a good thing I did !
I'm new so take this with a grain of salt, but I read that the "baby tears" will shine up the lips, tongues, and eyelids , nostrils for that moist look. Got that tip from the 2010-11 Secrist catalogue

From the catalogue: (Secrist) "BABY TEARS Use baby tears for the very best way to make your baby's lips look wet. Apply with a brush and let it dry overnight to a crystal clear coating. This can also be used for the nostrils, ears, and eyes , for additional realism. Clean brush with water after use. Don't bake this product-air dry only."
Yes, you are right... the glazing gel doesn't give a "shiny" shine but only like a satin type glaze. You only need a thin coat of it or it will turn chalkie. You'll either have to try to remove it carefully with some acetone and a cotton bud or go over it with the baby tears if it's not too chalkie. I think when people see the word "glazing" they think of a ceramic shiny glaze on a pot or something. The glazing gel is between shiny and satin.
Ok... thanks for the aclaration. Now I know that glazing gel is not going to give shine to my baby lips. They do look chalkie so i will try what Pat said.
I can not help but feel bad because of this... I now, silly me, but I thought it worked as a shiner. Well every day we learn something new about reborning. Now my question is what glossy accents are since im from Costa Rica... sorry but I don´t know how to ask for that in my country. Im trying to do my best learning about reborns in english!! LOL
PM is private messaging. If you click on someones name by their avatar, it will take you to their home page with their profile. Down at the bottom it says private message. If you click on that you can send that person a message and it will just be between the two of you. I know Susan, it can be hard to learn something in another language. I am learning German, know a little Spanish, and a little sign language. Put I give you praise for trying to learn in English :)
As far as the shiny stuff for lips, what Honeyloves is talking about is something similar to the baby tears that Secrist sells. I'm sure it's just less expensive but probably the same thing.
By the way Susan... my cousin moved to Costa Rica several years ago. He married a very nice girl from there and they live there now. Your country is very beautiful!
About the shiny thing.. OMG! I tried to take off all the chalkie with acetone but is only get worse! It looks more chalkie now!! Im about to cry believe me... now my baby looks horrible! I don´t wanna even touch it because Im afraid to make it wrong again. What can I do? should I use thinner on it? Please save my poor Rosie from the fatality... =(
...ok I was screaming inside my mind... im going to try to calm down a little. Just a little...
Pat, yes Costa Rica is beautiful I love it! You should try to came on vacations here... and teach me some skills on your way... Lol! sorry, I just ruin your vacations talking about teaching. =)
Be sure to wash her lips first to clean off the acetone. Try using some thinner then if the acetone didn't work hun. Sorry about the worse chalkies, you must have put several thicker layers of glazing gel on her lips. The acetone usually works to remove it. I would take her lips down to the original vinyl and start over on them with the color.
I use the glazing gel on the eyelids as its not so shiny, just a little moist looking. I don't like my babies to look like they have oily lids. Sometimes when we have the chalkies, some people have put the baby back in the oven for a little bit longer and that seems to help sometimes.
I would love to come to Costa Rica sometime. And I would even come to your house to help you with some reborning tips :) It would not ruin my vacation as I love to teach! :o
Yay!!! Im a happy person again! Thanks Pat and Ashley!!!
Acetone didn´t work out but then I wash the lips as u Pat said. Then I used thinner and undo all her lips paint. Now I redo her lips and eyelids and it looks pretty good! yay!
The only thing is that im afraid to use glazing gel on her eyelids again... maybe just one layer.
Pat, u are welcome to come here! Im a teacher too, I teach to special kids... so we can share reborn skills and some sign language too! Even spanish! lol =D
I'm glad it worked out for you. Yes, only use a very small layer of glazing gel when you use it on something. I use it on the eyelids, lips, and fingernail and toenails. I never use anything like that in the nostrils. I have yet to see a baby with wet nostrils unless they have been crying or are sick. Sorry, just my preference I guess. I don't follow the croud. :o
That would be great to come visit you Susan! I like to share with others :D
As you can see all the chalkie go away, I repaint her lips and it look fantastic. I do use one layer of glazing gel on her eyelids but I don´t see a change; I guess im gonna leave the glazing gel alone for a while. Lol
Then I put some shinny stuff on her lips and nails and looks great. Even I take the courage to paint her eyebrows. Now if u tell me that she´s ok Im going to start the rooting.
Wow! what a crazy story have this baby!

Hi Susan! Nice to meet you in Costa Rica! I'd love to go there someday! Is this baby you are working on in the pictures here, Rosie from Secrist? Georgia
I have Rosie coming with my Course #3 kit! I can't wait to do her as her lips are so great and those eyebrows! I love her! Good-luck! Stay clear of the monkeys! My fiends went on vacation to Costa Rica and there were monkeys all oer the place! LOL!
My appologies to the forumers... I have tried now about 8 times to remove the pics from Susan's post and they remove ok, then when I click post like I usually do... they re-appear! It's like I didn't do anything to them! I don't get it ;(
So, Susan, at some point I will try again to remove your pics. You can post links instead. As Liselle said, pics can only be posted in the artist showcase, but you can post links everywhere else hun. :)
Georgiaga, it´s funny. People think that Costa Rica is all full of monkeys, Lol! but is not like that, it´s a pretty place u should come some time. =) BTW yes, Rosie is really nice. Im rooting her now.
Pat, If u need me to remove the pics tell me, I don´t know if I can do it but I can try. =D
Don't worry Susan, it's not a problem. It's not anything you did that you can't remove them. After a certain period of time the people who post cannot change or edit their posts. It's up to the moderators like me and Linda to do it. So when I get time I'll see if I can do it again. Not to worry hun, it's ok. Calm down...
But don't be surprized if you see lots of -- Edited by Buffington on that post hahaha lol. I just didn't want anyone else posting their pics in here instead of links. :)
The reason we say no pics, just links everywhere except the artist showcase is because some people still have dial up internet and it's not fast. So if we say to post links, then they can choose to look at the links instead of the pics taking forever to load. It's being fair to everyone. But in the artist showcase it give you the chance to actually show your babies and stuff. If posters know there are actual pics in there they have the choice to go in there or not.
OK... I had to remove the pics one at a time, then resubmit. hahaha very funny. I'm down to the last pic and it keeps coming back haha. Ok, I'll try later, don't worry. :)
No worries, I'll get it fixed hun :) HUGS
