Greetings everyone, I just got my Claire kit (Romie Strydom) and suppose I should quit rocking the box and go make her into my baby boy, Kirk. This kit is quite dark, I would say a moderate suntan look but leaning to the cools rather than golds. Do I begin as usual with the first skin layer of Genesis babyskin #2 even though it is quite a bit lighter than the vinyl? My concern is that if I begin too dark I will have to go darker than I want in the areas I usually shadow. also the subtleties like inner wash and blushy folds may not show up. Has anyone done this kit, if so, and was yours darker than usual? I didn't order a dark one, although I don't mind working with it as long as I don't have to invest in a new color spectrum of paints to get the result I want. Thanks for any help! Cheri Sullivan
First off... if it's not a Secrist kit it probably doesn't need the internal wash. Secrist kits need the internal wash because of how the vinyl is made translucent like a baby's skin. Other kits are just too opaque to make a difference.
If the kit is darker than your skintone you want to use, I would say you probably can skip that and use the #2 as the secondary highlighting skintone. Don't make a solid coverage of it but use a sea sponge to make your skintone #2 coloring like mottling. Get what I am trying to explain? That way it's like you already have the darker base color (the original kit color) and the #2 is a companion color to give those differences in the skintone of a real baby.
One thing nice about the Genesis... if you try it and it doesn't work for you, just take it off! :)
Yes, the Authentic Reborn paints are still Genesis heat set, just made for Secrist. All heat set paints are created equal so far. You should have no problem taking the color off before you bake it. Only problem might be are the red and blue as they are more highly pigmented so they soak in quickly.
