I have finished David Vincent (Raine), my preemie (except for his hair 'cause it hasn't come yet).
Anyway, I know a preemie can be about 3 or 4 pounds. So I carefully weighed 3 pounds 6 ounces of weighting material - and he feels so HEAVY.
Also, how do you divide your weight? Suppose you are going to put 3 1/2 pounds in, how much of that goes in the head, how much in the arms and legs and how much in the body for a realistic feel. I know I've got his head too full right now, and his little body seems too fat.
Anyway, he looks cute in his little preemie sleeper that I got him today.
poppycat, remember dead weight feels heavyer then live , i'd put the 6 oz in the head maybe a little less, i fill the top and back of head with poly fill and the beads in the nose and mouth area. when weighting limbs i put the beads in the leg up to the mid calf or a little lower .from there to the top of knee is poly fill then fill thigh with beads.you'll need to sort of pack the polyfill down with a pencil or finger so the beads don't shift . i do the arms the same way. the rest of the beads are put in a nylon stocking , leave a little extra room in the stocking so the beads can move . you want babys body to cuddle into you and this can 't happen if its stuff like a football. top off with some polyfill. ...........hope this has been of some help.......................sage

Remember too to take into account the weight of the vinyl, the body material and the polyfill. I overestimated my first one too because I didn't take that all into account.
i put it in the nose and mouth area cos i have a thing about their little noses in the air espcialy for pix but realy .....its 6 of one and half a dozen of another .......lol......its your personal taste that counts so put it how you like it.........can't wait to see pix........sage
I put about 1/3 of the weight in the head (as babies heads are heavy in reality). Then 1/3 in the butt, stretched through the torso, then divide the rest into the limbs. The weight in the head I try to get towards the back like June. I have been known to put the pellets in a nylon kneehigh. First I put in some polyfil, then the weight, then more polyfil so the weight doesn't shift. Then for the limbs I just put the weight in and fill the rest with polyfil, but not stuff it hard. To get the stuffing in I use a chopstick! They work really well (and I LOVE Chinese food!) so I've always got them. I also use them for other things. I can buy a pack of chopsticks (nice bamboo with a shiny design on them) at my local grocery store for about $3? Not much. I get about 6 pairs (I think).
I usually put the body stuffing in the lower part of the body, then the sack of weight but more towards the butt as that makes them lay better in your arms (IMHO) and leaves the tummy to be more cuddly. More stuffing in the tummy and fill it up but leave it more loose near the neck to you get that little bit of newborn floppy neck. I don't seal any of the limbs or head as I've never had the stuffing come out.
If you can, try picking up a newborn to 3 month old. Cradle them in your arms and close your eyes... feel where the weight really is. For my older babies, I don't leave the neck quite as floppy, and I put most of the weight for the body in the butt. Makes them sit better, and if they can sit, I don't want their neck so floppy anyway.
Hope this helps. Remember, everyone has their own way, so see what works best for you :)
