im new to reborning, that new infact ive not started yet.

i came across your forum when looking for info about rooting needles, which i found very interesting.

im finding it all a bit daunting at the moment, i have bought some stuff including genesis starter paints, various stuffing, ive yet to get my rooting tool and needles.

i have also bought a small 10inch baby to reborn, her name is claire, put i have bought a head and a limb to practice on, i keep looking at them in the box and thinking i should give it a go, but i think im a bit scared to make a start in case i mess up, but i know if i mess up i can start again.

i did have a question about the purple colour that goes inside the body, would i use the genesis paint or would it be better to get an air drying paint for that, and how do you get the paint to the toes and fingers?
i have seen online videos using dye but i don't want to use the dye process, so has anyone got and tips about this.

any advice would be appreciated x

I use the Periwinkle Blue, I do inside on the bridge of the nose, ears, mouth. I think that is enought coulour now with the quality f the new Vinyl. Welcome to the forum, we are a wonderfull ,helpfull, happy bunch and only to glad to share information with you. There are 2 things you might find helpfull when starting out, that is the 2 DVD's for Genisis Heat Set Paints, with the teckniques, and the Rooting one, I found they are both very good. I have also bought a BB DVD, on their painting methods and as they are similar, it is good to have to information. On here you can just type in a question and see if someon e has given info on that along the way. ie: Chalky Paint, that will bring you to the topic started and the answers given. By the way my name is June, I have a Brother in law in Swindon UK, and a Sister in Law in Nth Ireland, I'm from Oz. I love this site. XXXXX June.

Welcome to the forum :)
I think your exactly where most of us were as some point, sort of intimidated, so no worries its normal. Once you get going though you'll be hooked for sure.
I personally only use an internal wash for secrist kits or any kits that are translucent . I do all my depth and layering from the outside. I apply my blue, purple, whatever tones in areas on the outside of the kit where I want them to be. I don't think you can mix paints as far as air dry and heat set. i don't think the ADP can be heated so you kind of have to finish with what you start with. Junes right about the video's they will give you a basic idea of the whole progess and you expand with your own imagination from there. I have tried several tools for rooting from the pen to the multi rooting tool and found I always revert back to my wooden mushroom tool. I suffer from a pinched nerve in my wrist and found this tool does help and is very comfortable to hold while rooting. As for needles I thinkI have tried just about all of them too LOL! I started out with a 40g 6 barb needle and recently progessed to the german forked 43g (however my favorite is the 43 1 barbed, I get the same effect as the german forked with the frustration LOL) . I think for beginning you might consider something like the 38 or 40 gauge with a few barbs until you get the hang of it. Sorry so long winded. I hope I helped and not sent you running!

Hi Carol and welcome to our family forum! We're glad to have any and all who want to learn our art. The ladies are all friendly and helpful, funny and always play nice with others hehehe.

The internal wash (blue, periwinkle, etc) in our forum is only used on the Secrist, Apple Valley (Secrist's sister company), and some like me use it on the German vinyl (from DD). The others do not seem to be so translucent and would be a waste of time and paint (IMHO).

Be sure to follow directions for baking, it's important if you want your paints to be permanent. Always use an oven thermometer, even on brand new ovens and they can vary in temp.

If there's anything you want to know you can always use our search feature to find the answer. We have thousands of posts if you want to know right away. Yes, I love the feature of the genesis (ghsp) as it does allow one to have do-overs. :) You'll be fine, no worries!

Please feel free to post your pics in the artist showcase (and also to read what few rules we have).
again... welcome
