Regular acrylic paints??

My mother-in-law was trying to be nice and bought acrylic paints for me- but I have only used Genesis heat set paint.  First can you use on the vinyl and also how- with mineral spirits?  I feel bad but i think I have to return them.  no

I'd like to know too, because I just got a set of acrylics. I've heard of reborners using them, and I know they're thinned with water for a wash consistency, but will they hold up on the vinyl?

Do some art on canvas from the cheep shops. Then that wont upset here. I have used them , they are not the in thing with reborning buyers. Will post pics of the two I did with oil Paints so you can see. XXXXX June.

Instead of returning the paints- what about using them on the inside of the doll for depth-most of the are flesh tones, etc. Thank you

Sorry ladies... acrylic paints are no longer recommended as they will cause bruising (use search feature to find topics on this in forum threads). They have ruined many a reborn. Especially not on the inside, that is even worse. Also they will not give the long standing heirloom quality you want, and will fade or change color over time. :(
A lot of us long-timer reborners have already gone this route so can speak from personal experience. It was a nice gesture though :)
Sorry. :(

The air dry paints are a form of acrylic paints.  As the others have said acrylics, as well as, oils were used before the advent of GHSP.  I've never had bruising with them, but they definitely do not hold up like GHSP.  You use water with them rather than mineral spirits.  If I used them, I would also need a retarder as they dry too fast here.

So, Linda, what is your opinion of regular artist grade acrylic paints?

Would you use them, or should I tell my ex he owes me for these paints I can't use? :)

My opinion is that the HSP and/or the AD paints formulated specifically for this art are a better investment.  I just hate to see people spending bucks for outdated paint when the new and improved paint produces a more long-lasting product.
