What do you say if someone wants to buy your doll without clothes?...

ashamedI got a message on Ebay from a lady who I think wants to save money by asking for doll without accessories.  I responded that the doll was already very reasonaably priced and that I was primarily asking for my cost of the materials for the actual doll.  So I asked if she was making an offer- that I would take $8 off overall. Any feedback? Thanks!

I would hope they are not a pervert...lol..I guess it depends on how you feel. One lady sold them for awhile called "bare naked babies" they came with a diaper, t shirt and receiving blanket. She said people wanted reborns but didn't like the big increase to get clothing. Actually I usualy give away the clothing. DUH...I know..

I think that if you sell it without cloths, onlly take the costs of the clothing that you would normally pay. Ithink that would be fair. just include a disposable nappy singlet and bunny rug. xxxx june.

I tell them that the price I charge is for the doll. The clothing and accessories are really freebies for their convenience (as I can't put a naked doll online or in a sale). They are usually happy with that answer and we both get a laugh. :)

Although upon occassion I have given a buyer a break of up to $10 on a full sized doll and up to $5 on a preemie. It can be good customer service. But I do make 1 stipulation...
they have to purchase that doll before they leave my booth or the deal is no good. I don't want them coming back later and saying ...

You could just say that the hospitals don't send babies home without clothes ... this is really not any different :) You want to send them home looking their best !

So are you saying someone is trying to save $8 from the total price by asking you if you will remove the clothing?  I think the person must be on a strict budget because $8 is nothing.  I think it would make me a little wary of dealing with a customer like that.  I think I like GG's answer that hospitals don't send babies home without clothes.

Ha Ha- No- I was trying to be tactful and trying to explain to someone that the price is based on the cost of the materials- and it was already fairly low in my opinion. Anyhow after I told her I would only take a few bucks off she never emailed back- so I think she was just trying to barter her way around the price. I stuck to my guns.

Good for you. Sometimes no matter what you do, they are still only tire-kickers. Not really interested in a purchase but want see if they can push the envelope.

And I too like GG's answer :) hehehe

That's exactly true, who would take a baby home undressed, I know we have some ferrals over here that would take it home in a disposeable nappy and maybe a singet in summer. Glad you stuck to your guns.   By the way Pat your Ring is Stunning. Love it.     XXXXX        June.

Thanks June! Its actually a "virtual" piece. I designed it using a CAD program (computer aided design). I will be carving it in wax soon to cast in sterling. :) I used diamonds alternating with alexandrites (which are a color-change stone. Glad you like it.
When I cast it, the stones will be different as I can't afford that size diamonds and the alex's are uber expensive. So maybe white and blue sapphires or something, haven't decided yet.

Oh, beautiful. Is alexandrite kind of like mystic topaz? I love that particular stone.

Liselle, no, alexes are not like mystic. Although mystic is a pretty stone, the colors you see are actually a "coating" that can be scratched and damaged. Its kind of an aurora borialis type of coating that shows many different colors. Alex's color is actually through out the entire stone, every crystal of it. The colors and colorchanges are as varied as people. One stone will be red in house light and blue in the sun, or maybe purple-blue in the sun and red at night, or even blue then change to green. Its so varied. That is one reason why it's soooo expensive for natural. Now "lab created" is less expensive and can have the same colorchanges but it's usually a deeper, clearer stone. Lab created is still a "real" alexandrite but they have taken a tiny crystal from a natural one and force grow it in a lab. Kind of like a test tube baby, a baby none the less, just grown under different circumstances.

June... you just wouldn't believe how much you have to learn. That's why it was a 2 year course just for jewelry. And then there's the Gemology end of it. Totally different and separate. Then there's the CAD which is again, separate. WHEW!
In all the courses we just barely scratched the surface in what we learned. Kind of like learning reborning with the first DVD :) I could go to school forever (seems like I already have hahaha) and still wouldn't have learned half of it. :o
And speaking of sapphires... did you all know that a ruby and a sapphire are the exact same thing but it's the color red that distinguishes a ruby from a sapphire? And... there are many, many colors of sapphires, not just blue? If a pink ruby is found it's actually a pink sapphire, because it's not red. How about that eh? Querky.

Yes, and that's just a scratch of it. Of course some of it bores people to death. But it's totally fasinating to me!

For me, the real collectors are few and far between. You're right though, most people just don't understand. And you might also hear them say something like... it's just a doll so why so much for it?...

I figure they don't want to be educated on the subject and they weren't really interested in knowing or buying the baby anyway. Ya get all kinds.

I never explain like "for materials, etc" I just say it is for the complete reborn. I usually don't have anyone ask if the clothes come with it. I guess they just assume because of the prices. I don't know. I only had 1 or 2 times where they asked for the baby with no clothing. And I don't put them in bags either (the babies I mean)! I also never lift a reborn by the arm like I see some try to do. Then I stop them and ask... "do you pick up your children this way too?" and usually I get a "No!" but sometimes... scarry!
