Hello to everyone here. I hope this forum is kind to newbies I am hoping to find somone here who could help me out. I need a head painted (for a 30" doll) so that it will look more realistic than the stock head. It doesn't need to be of the caliber that most of the artists here are capable of (I've seen some of them!). I run a dog rescue for behaviorally-challenged doggies, and we do get dogs that are afraid of children and babies. I need a small child doll to work with these dogs. I can have the head mailed to anyone in the US. Would anyone be willing to do this, and what would the cost be? Thank you very much, Randy Davis www.BetterByThePound.org

Hi Randy, welcome to our family forum! Yes, we are kind to newbies :) at least we've had many compliments on it :) And yes, this is an ok place to post this because you are talking of painting it.
Kudos on working with those challenged doggies, someone needs to. I would be willing to do that for you. I also teach classes. Are you in the US or out of the country? If you are out of the country I can try to find you someone maybe closer to your home.
You can pm me with how much you are looking to spend on having the head painted. And would the head need hair too? If so, a wig or hand rooted? If you want me to do it or want to pm me, just click on my name above my avatar. It will take you to another page where at the bottom it should say "private message". Just click on that and our conversation will not be seen nor posted in the actual forum.
If you would like me to find someone else that is ok too, just let me know.
Take Pat, Take Pat, Take Pat, she will give you the best of her reborning skills, and then, you can do one for yourself, like the rest of us, with the help of all the lovely ladies on the forum... Had to put in my 2 bits Pat. LOL. XXXXXX June.
We just adore newbies :) A doggy rescue? I think it's wonderful that your helping those sweet little guys be able to adjust to new loving homes that way! There are so many talented artist here and any one of them would be more than willing to help you!
Thank you! I woke up this morning and had 3 replies already! To answer all of the questions- Yes I'm in the US- California I wouldn't need hand rooting, a wig will do just fine. I only need to fool a dog I'm no artist, but I think at the bare minimum I would need the lips painted and some eyelashes in order for it to appear real enough. Anything else would be icing on the cake! As for what I can spend, I would consider any reasonable fee. Thank you again, Randy Davis 760-846-7091
June, thanks, you make me feel so humble *blush blush*
Yes, as Tina pointed out, any one of us would be willing to help you out. I am in MN. I will pm you and we can discuss this. If you want to seek out others for comparison (more bang for less bucks lol) you may do so with no obligation to me. :)
I do have lashes and a couple of wigs that I think might fit for a 30" doll head. You would pay the shipping both ways I presume? Ok, I'm going to pm you now :)
Sorry everyone, I am not able to get/receive pms, apparently. A small window keeps popping up saying that I cannot use "Interactive services", that there is compatability issues and that I need Administrator permission... Anyway my email is randy at betterbythepound.org if that is ok.
Buffington- I think ideally I would order the head and wig and have it sent directly to whoever is going to do the work. Then the finished head could be sent here and and i would of course pay for shipping + whatever the cost. I only want to be fair about it. I would try it myself but aside from not having any supplies, I have no skill-- I want to fool the dogs into thinking it's a real child, not scare them to death with a mini Bozo the clown
another thing you might consider is haveing some child you know puting the clothes the doll will wear on his or her bed for about a week so your doll will smell real too. just a thought. sage
OK Randy. I'll e-mail you instead. We had it going pretty good there for a while, I wonder what happened. I think we're about set. With your permission I'll post pics of the finished head in the artist showcase. Maybe when you have her together you can take a few pics to post there also of some of the doggies and their doll in training eh? :)
Sage, that sounds like a good idea, it would make the doll seem even more real then, IMHO.

Sage- That is a great idea. We use scents often in the rehab process.
Pat- Everything is set. Please feel free to post pics of your work in the showcase. I can make a short video of the completed doll in action. Also, I'll make some footage of the baby/carrier we have set-up for a generic newborn doll, complete with speakers and baby sounds. Thank you all! RD
Ok Randy. I'll try to post pics in progress. Don't forget, this is not a "fully reborned" head, just some basic lifelike painting done to fool doggies, which is what you asked for. (My fully customed reborns cost LOTS more lol). :) If you post pics or vids, you can do so in artist showcase where the rest of the pics go (only links in other areas). Looking forward to seeing carrier
