Purple wash: Inside and out side of head?

Was I wrong in purple washing the inside and outside of the "Crying " baby kit?

She's looking a bit scratched-up and light bruises..the foundation skin(5 layers) of Secrist is just not working at all..I tried to get the baby skin look to come//but no good...the top and the back of her head I am referring to..the face is ok(so-so)

What would you uggest to give her head that baby skin look?

I am also getting shiny spot here and there that I have covered up..you think maybe the vinyl kit itself is faulty?

I don't think there is a right or wrong, I know on BB kits and mostly all kits except Secrist I don't do an internal wash only because the vinyl isn't translucent and dosen't need it, but it can't hurt as long as you bake it long enough, I do give them a outside wash where I want the "thin skin" look. Where are your light bruises? I can't really see anything in your pictures showing any bruising. Are they just now starting to show?

It's all over..she's starting to look a bit like a zombie baby...because the baby skin paints are not working...

She just doesn't look right..my camera is gone...

Also the purple wash makes her look dirty in a few places...

Sounds like some bruising and a bit too much coloring on the outside as well, without seeing it it's hard to tell though. If it's bruising from the inside, I'm not sure what you can do to correct that however if it's just too much purple was on the outside you may have to strip it down or try to nuteralize it with and opposite color.

What's the opposite colour of purple?

I diid another two layers baby skin and it appear to not look bad,but the top, botton and sides of head has a lot of texture..besides it she's looking more and more like that newborn the sculpter was going for...that hard birth baby..if I may.

Have you tried a mint wash on the outside to colour correct? I never do an internal wash, all I do is under the bridge of the nose, mouth and ears. As for the outside did you see the mother and daughter post, this is what we did, they have only had two lots of baking yet, I use a bathroom sponge to mottel the skin, with periwinkle blue and then after that is done and baked do another loot of motteling with payrole red, after each section is done then it is blotted with a makeup sponge. We still have a another few classes to go before they are up to the final lot of baking. Some milk spots, scratches, and birthmarks, alittle more lip colour and shading. I would never do an outside wash with purple. Hope this helps. XXXXX June.

Sorry you're having issues Steve. No, it's probably not a good idea to colorwash the perwinkle inside and out, just one side with do. Sounds like your having a bruising issue. If it is true brusing, it will come through the paint again some time in the future (search forum for "bruising"). So your best bet might be to do this one as a dark skinned baby instead to lessen the bruising showing up. Even if you color-correct it will still come through.

As far as doing the internal wash, only do this on Secrist, AV (Apple Valley dolls), or the German vinyl from DD. These seem to be the only "translucent" vinyl out there. The others would be ok with the wash on the outside, or just hit like the areas that June mentioned. That will still give you the right look.
Hope this helps you out with this issue :)

June, how do you accomplish the scratched and birthmarks if I may ask? Is your paint thicker?  I've tried the mop brush and stencil brush and it seems the paint runs on the vinyl not giving it a crisp look.  When I try they all wind up looking like blushing, not the"pin dot" look for birth marks. Hope that makes sense.

Tina, when I do my birthmarks and storkbites, I have more of the paint (less thinner) and I just dab with the mop brush and it does start to run a tiny bit but then I lightly hit it with the sponge, just a pounce or two.
But... you don't want it too thick or red or it will look like the baby has an injury instead. The little

Like Buffington, I use my Genesis with almost no thinner to make tiny scratches, stork bites, milk bumps, etc.

As for the bruising, it's almost unheard of to have bruising using Genesis paints.  That's something that is more likely with the use of dye.  Maybe the paint was applied to thickly or the color was too dark?????
