Best ways to put lashes on a closed-eyed baby

I think this may be a bit more difficult to do than putting the lashes on an opened-eyed baby....at least for me..I'm about to do my first closed-eyed baby doll kit.

Are you glueing them on or rooting them. I am yet to attemp rooting but plan to do so with the next closed eyed baby. Naomi by Naomi Johson from Australia. She used to be on this forum as Precious Lullabyes, she is quite talented for someone so young. Glueing isn't that hard if that is what you plan on doing. I use tacky craft glue and curl to lash to fit the shape and let it dry a little before placeing it in the groove. XXXXX Good Luck. June.

Rooting is just as easy. I never use pre made lashes for my babies I always found them harder to do. Just hold the hair as you would when doing your head and carefuly angle your needle and slide it into the slit there the two eye lids come together. root on to two hairs then move the hair along the slit and proceed until your finished. glue from the inside as you would your head. Hope this helps.

Both ways are good, it's personal preference (as you can see by the posts).
I do it both ways depending on the sleeping eye of the kit.

I use E-6000 and toothpicks to glue mine on. I put a little dab of glue in the area between the lids almost up to the inside corner. I take a clean toothpick and press the end of the lash into there and hold till secure. Then I let that dry for about 20 minutes. It should be secure enough to hold then to glue the rest of the area, then press the rest of the lash into the lid area. I used to try to do it all at once but found that the glue would dry early or I couldn't ge tthe placement right and get glue all over.

If you are going to root the lashes, do as Andrea said and make sure you are in the slit where the lids meet. Then angle the rooting tool so the needle is pointing towards the back of the head and the handle touching the cheek. Lashes should point downward toward the cheek when rooted correctly.

I know your class will turn out great, June.  I think they are so much fun.  I wish I had studio where I could go to teach them every day.  Well... maybe not every day, but at least a few days a week.

Like Tina, I have never glued the synthetic eyelashes on a closed-eye baby.  Once you try rooting them, I bet you'll never go back to the glued-on lashes.

I tried rooting the lashes, the hairs that I used on the head of the baby never seems proper for the lashes, not coarse enough to be eyelash hair...but yes it is easier to root the eyelashes than to gluing them on,which is a pain most the times for me...

The other thing that throws me is,what's the proper length of eyelashes?

I hand root my eyelashes with the mohair that I use for the top of the head. My first try and I was successful at it. I used the crease and they lay really well and I don't get that extra clumps that sometimes happen when rooting near the same spot (I) just rooted near.

That's great Jodie! And June, you go girl!! You'll be just fine :)
Steve, when you cut the lashes, look from the side too instead of just from the front. I also look down from the top of the head. Don't just cut them straight across, try to cut one at a time with little pointed sissors. Cut one short, one longer, etc. They'll look more natural. :)
