I'm attempting to paint Claire as an AA or at the very least, biracial. I've painted about 4 layers so far with ADP, letting each limb dry while I painted the next.
I saw a method used for painting, so I adapted it for this: Literally load up the brush and sweep it on with the paintbrush. I'm using a wide angled brush for this. Then immediately before the paint dries, I take my cosmetic sponge and pounce it all over for the skin effect.
The first 2 layers, I painted using a combination of BnB's Burnt Umber, Cinnamon and flesh hi-light to a LOT of thinner. Very watery. Then I darkened it a bit with more brown, blush undertones and a tad more thinner. Next I added still MORE brown and that's the layer I stopped at today. Each layer is consistently darker. All this is painted over a flesh base.
The problem is, I'm not really seeing a huge difference in the vinyl color. It's VERY slight. What else should I be doing? Is this a common issue with AA/Biracial babies, or am I doing something wrong?
I use the ethnic skin tone for my base its like milk chocolate then for other coats I mixed the light color with the deep ethnic tone until I got the color I wanted. It took quit a few coats.

I tried cinnamon and burnt umber on a doll I had to strip it because it had too much red in it and I just could not get the color right until I stripped it and started over with the ethnic colors.
I've finally noticed a difference. I think I'm done with the skin tone, and ready to move on to the creasing and blushing. It took about 7-8 layers, each a bit darker, to get it to work right.
Next question. Do AA/Biracial babies have blushing on them? Do I add another layer that is strictly blush, not the brown? Do I need to do a stippled effect? (the little dots, etc)
Both bi-racial and AA babies do have blush and mottling. It's more apparent in the bi-racial than the darker AA's. You can add a layer that is stricly blush and also do the stippeling too if you like. Try googleing bi-racial or AA babies and then click on the images to see what you are looking for. there are lots of pics. :)
I think blushing depends on the darkness of the skiin. If it's very dark, not much if any blushing. The stippled effect should give the skin some texture so I would try it.
