Hello Teena,

Welcomeaww! I am new as well, But I think I could help ya out.... I prefer the poly pellets because they wont cut the vinyl like the glass beads can. I also put the poly pellets in a Knee high and put that in the head, limbs, and body. How much to use is up to you.. I always do mine to how much a real baby weights, I usually do what my nieces and nephews weighted when they were small little ones. This forum is filled with great stuff... Alot of great ladies who have helped me by answering my questions only... biggrin I hope I helped you there will be other ladies to help answer your question as well.

biggrinCan't wait to see what your little one will look like... Best of luck.. evileye

I always fill my limbs about 3/4 the way full with pellets and the rest stuffing. I pack the stuffing in nice and tight then I seal them. as far as the body and head, I do the same as Jodie, I use a knee-hi stocking and fill according to the weight I want the baby to be. I tie it off and run the stocking back over the already tied ball of pellets and tie again(I guess you can say I double bag =) LOL)!

I sometimes make little sacks for the pellets out of T shirt material, and stich them up once filled. I also have used little round couloured glass beads from the cheap shops over here and mix them with the poly pellets, but if you cant get them there then the poly pellets are good. Don't use sand, as I was told by the teacher when I made my first couple of babies, as you can't sell them overseas if you want to. I put them in the same places as the other girls. XXXXXX June.

Hi Teena and welcome to our family forum. :)
Yes, everyone is right on what they said here. Just follow their advice and all will be good.

One thing, and June pointed that out: Don't ever use sand (or food like rice or beans) inside your reborns to weight them. All are considered bio-hazard and not only can't go over-seas, but you wouldn't want someone else to have your doll somewhere down the road and have that issue either, because someone else may not know what it's stuffed with. Always be on the safe side. I never weight the 6" babies... too small. :)

Welcome to the forum, Teena.  I do what everyone else does except that I occasionally use glass beads if a customer wants more weight in the doll.  The glass pellets that I use are little glass balls that do not have sharp edges.  They are not as fine as the Secrist product, but not so thick that they make noise.  I really like them when extra weight is needed because they add weight but not bulk.

I have almost the same question. I've bought a baby in e-bay. She is so beautiful and looks like real baby. But! I found only one thing that makes me sad. I think, that lady, who made her, put a lot of glass beads in her feet, so they (feet) are unnatural hard and overweighted. What can I do for to make them more natural? Also beads move inside the arms and legs, so I think, the best way is to disconnect arms and legs, then leave beads in fingers and toes and put some poly-fil, then put beads again. Really, when I made my quadruplets, I found in e-bay, that a lady sold socks for to fill them with beads instead to sew special bags. So I bought the chipest socks (just 2 - there are 4 socks) and filled them with plastic beads (I bought plastic beads in the hunter shop, he-he!), and put them in my quadruplets bodies. I think, may be it will be better to put the same socks in arms-legs, and then poly-fil, of course. What do you think?

If you get too many glass beads in the limbs it can make them feel harder than with the poly pellets. I don't put my pellets in bags for the limbs, I just make sure to put in some polyfil to the top of the limb. Then I secure the limb. I don't seal the ends as nothing comes out anyway, just attach them to the bodyslip.

When I put them in the body or head I do put them in a stocking, and then fill the rest with polyfil.

I think you'll be alright with how you are doing it Valentina.

Oh yes, by the way... you commented on another post when someone called you "Solymar" and said your name is Valentina. I just wanted to say that people usually call each other by whatever their forum name is unless you put it down where you put your quote for your avatar. Like Sage's name isn't really Sage, it's Donna but we call her Sage. June's name isn't really sara zata but we call her by her real name cause its there on her quote. I just wanted you to know hun :)

I've gotta ask again about poly pellets. They sound nice, but aren't they really light? So how do you get your babies to weigh enough with poly pellets inside?? Are the babies just SUPPOSED to look like they weigh 5 or 6 lbs., so are they actually supposed to weigh that?

You can mix a small amount of glass beads with the polly pellets if you want to weight them a little heavier, I didn't explain myself properly in an earlier post, I only use the sacks in the body and head, I put a bit of poly fill in at the back then the sack of beads, I usually use mosly glass in the head and half and half in the body( in as sack) in the arms and legs i just fill them to a bit above the knee level the loosely poly fill and then if you dont have the plastic caps to insert, I use calico and glue with fast dry glue similar to E6000, to the top of the arms and legs. XXXXXX June.

Once you get a bunch of them together they really aren't that light hun. And dead weight actually weighs more than live weight. I know that sounds funny but for some reason it's true. My babies actually "feel" like they weigh that much. I've weighed them and will the vinyl and all, hair, stuffing they probably do actually weigh that.

You don't actually put 5 pounds of weighting pellets in a 5 pound baby cause then it will be over that weight. So, you can weight the limbs and head with pellets. Then put them on a scale with the bodyslip. See how much that weighs and then fill the body with pellets and stuffing and weigh as you go along.
Ok, how's that? :)
