Rooting Human Hair

I wish I could give you a definitive answer. I haven't rooted human hair because I was warned that it is very difficult to root. That's apparently why most reborn artists use mohair, alpaca, etc. If you find a way to root the human hair, I hope you will let us know what finally worked for you.

please let us know if you figure it out, when my ex came back in town he had hair down to his shoulders.of course i was not standing for that so on easter i gave him a hair cut.but i kept the hair and dyed it .would love to use it. sage aww

ok, i went to mohair rooting and question page-- called up page 3 half way down is the rooting human hair question. pat b. gives a very good answer. i'm going to give it a whirl when i get my exs hair the color i want it. this forum does have the answers, you just gotta cruise around it,realy check it out sage aww

Something you have to remember when using human hair...

Baby hair is thicker than mohair and alpaca. Also adult hair is way thicker than that. So I would use a larger guage needle and more barbs.

Also, human hair, since it's not attached to the folicle, is dying and will become brittle eventually, so you have to be very careful when rooting it. Animal hair does not seem to be the same even if it also isn't attached to the folicle for some reason. Thus we can use mohair and alpaca with no problems usually.

Color treated, straightened, or neglected hair will be another diffulty (FYI)

You will have to go more slowly and very deliberately with each human hair you are rooting in order to avoid issues. :o

well started rooting big baby with my ex's hair and so far i'm loveing it. i'm useing a 40g needle , got a good bit done yesterday and took the precaution of glueing it. that way i wouldn't pull any out while finishing. we'll see how it goes. sage aww

I usually glue as I go along too, I hate needing to reroot what I've already done =(

ok guys i've switched to a 38g needle,big babys head is big and the 38g is longer which means it goes deeper ,getting the hair deeper. it seemed like there should have been more hair on the inside yesterday then there was. her bangs are done, both sides are done working on top and back now. i wanted to micro root her but the truth is i'd be here till winter. the 40g worked ok but sometimes didn't grab the hair. furious

Oh My! I think that's a really good look so far on the rooting (in artist showcase). Makes me think there's hope for my Ariella, which looks like my Amanda when she was a baby. I like what you said about the larger needle and it taking you till winter to root. hahaha that's about how I feel.

Can't wait to see her all done.
