Which one would you suggest for a newcomer?

Let me apologize in advance for the lengthiness of this post. I'm really stuck on this one. I don't know which one I should choose. There are literally so many to choose from, and I simply don't know what would be the best route to go. Thanks for taking the time to check all these out!! I appreciate it!

Hi Liselle,

I think you are just going to have to pick a tool and try it.  Everyone seems to have a different reason(s) for why they prefer one over another.

To further complicate matters, I carry a wooden handle, low-tech, tool that uses a rubber band to hold the needle in place.  I've tried lots of other tools, but this is my favorite.  It fits my fingers and I can root a long time without any problems.   I also like it because it works on ALL needle lengths without cutting needles.  It's not on my website because I don't have very many of them.  I sell them for $10/each plus shipping.

So... pick one, and be sure to pay attention to the description to find out the length of the needles needed.

Good luck!

Linda

I bought one off BB site, the mushroom handle with needles. I'll see how it does.

Is that the one that requires the needles to be cut?

Probably. I honestly didn't notice. It comes with several. I'll end up getting another one, I'm sure.

*edit*

It came in today. It does have cut needles. I'll have to get more, but probably not this week. It came with 6 or 7. I have to say, the tool itself is alot smaller than I thought. Maybe thats a good thing.

Like Linda said, it depends on your preferences. I like a shorter, wider tool so I have the plastic mushroom handle from Secrist. I prefer it because I have short hands and fingers. It fits comfortably in the palm of my hand and the needle can be adjusted to the depth I need.
It takes cut or uncut needles, whichever I have on hand.
I tried the wooden one but it was too long for me and not comfortable. I ordered one for a customer as she had the plastic one. We traded, she got wooden, I got another plastic! :)

Yes... this is why there is no one right needle holder for everyone.  Each person has a different hand/finger size, physical limitations, needle preferences.  It would be so much more simple if we could just state positively that one style is best for beginners.  In the meantime,  I'm  low-tech wooden handle with my rubber bands.

So far, no problems with the BB mushroom handle. It's kinda fun.

My very favorite rooting needle holder is this German wood rooting needle holder that Dolls by sandie has. It is so easy to change needle when one breaks & just use it now & love it.                     http://www.dollsbysandie.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=164

I started out years ago with just an uncut rooting needle (I think 36 guage) and a wide rubber band wrapped around it. That worked well too until I found the plastic mushroom handle that I love the best!
I agree, rooting is relaxing for me too! It's like knitting or crocheting for some people. lol
