I sure wish I knew the answer to the paint question, but wouldn't feel comfortable guessing. Offhand, I would say it cannot be baked since you mentioned the word "acrylic". Normally those are air dry paints. I don't know what the result of baking an acrylic paint would be.
You should definitely send an email to BB since it is their product.
Good luck, Linda

Please don't use acrylic paint for the internal wash!!! it will eventually make the baby get strange bruises and purple splotches, because acryilc paint will migrate out through the vinyl. That is one of the worst things you can do to your baby. Use a genesis paint internal wash instead, which because it is heat-set, will not do anything bad to your baby.

Thank you both so much! I only did the head but like most painting advice I had only used very little and only once. Thank you. Do you know what the genesis paints are made of? Oil? I do have the Secrist 19" doll DVD, I have only looked at the internal wash beginning. I am going to make a date with the DVD and watch the whole program. I am going to do an outside wash with the earth mint and carry on my skin tone from there. I am so grateful for this forum. Thank you again. Andrea
Hi Andrea. I will say that if anything says "acrylic", do not ever bake it. It can either dissappear altogether, or can ruin your baby. Also, we have found over the years that, as Ms Reborner said above, it has been known to migrate into the vinyl and ruin many babies, especially the purples (lavendar), reds (rose), and blues.
If you haven't baked it already, you can wash it out of the head. It is true that BB vinyl (and most other vinyls other than Secrist, AVDW, and some German vinyls) do not need an internal wash because this vinyl (especially the pinks) is not translucent, but rather opaque. Therefore it defeats the purpose of the internal wash. Most just do an outside wash instead to get the bluish undertones.
Genesis paints are a polymer based paint, not acrylic but not oil. They are thixatropic meaning they are thick in the container but when stirred become the consistancy of oils. The do not ever dry but are heat cured and must be baked, always.
All acrylics are air-dry paints. Most anything that says acrylic is air dry only. You cannot mix Genesis paints and any acrylics or oils, as they are not compatable.
I hope this helps you, and anyone else interested. :)
Thank you. Should I allow the vinyl to cool completely before the next layer is applied. I don't know if the vinyl can still be warm for the paint applications.
Yes, you should let it cool completely, or at least until it is barely warm.

Thanks again, I love your webpage. I have a Fine Arts degree from FIT in NYC back in the 80's so I know I am going to enjoy this art. I did the best with portraits although children are more difficult. I know it will take a while but I am willing to take my time. All the best, Andrea
Always allow your painted parts to cool completely before painting them with the next layer. If they are not cooled completely, since we use heat-set paints, they have a tendancy to stick quickly and start heat setting ahead of what we want.
Thank you for the additional information on the cooling period. I can see how that would make the paint not work in the manner it is supposed to if it's not cool. My painting has been slow since I only work on it after work but I am really enjoying this. She now looks more newborn, very special indeed. Can't wait until my work is completed. I will post her. I am having a luncheon in her honor in February. This is so much fun and endearing as you go.
I know how that goes. I'm at school all day and night so I don't get much time to paint my babies. I'm working on 4 at once. That way when I get them done I can take their heads with me to root when I get a few moments lol.
Post some pics of the honors luncheon in our artist showcase!
I will take some pictures and post them. We are a tame group so it will be within taste. My new girl to be has an outfit ordered. I do want to place steel pellets in for weight. Do you have any suggestions on that? Should I post the question in a different format?
I would rather go for a black , blue or purple felt lining inside the front part of the head to add more depth....... That is if the kit is not that opaque....
This also seems to bring out some of the colours in the face a little more....
Most of us Ozzie girls only do internal wash in the head near the ears, eyes, bridge of nose and mouth, as we find that with all the washes everywhere else you get the depth with the more layers you apply. Just my opinion. XXXXX June.
