Secrist Preemie Kit - Zoe - help for a beginner!

Hello!

I am new to 'reborning' and have been doing some thorough research, as well as reading most of these topics! I have bought a berenguer (sp?) reborn online before, but have just purchased the Secrist 17" Premmie Kit - Zoe, which will hopefully arrive very soon!

I'm very excited however nervous about it as I'm a newbie, and would like some advice. Here are some questions I have... would specifically love someone who's done the Zoe kit to respond!

1. How easy is this kit? Is it easy to wipe paint off if you make a mistake (and haven't baked it)? What do you use?

2. What did you fill yours with? I bought cotton fill and polly pellets. Is this suitable?

3. How do I make sure not to overfill? My first reborn that I bought has very fat arms, which is frustrating as it makes it less lifelike and difficult to move.

4. Is it easy to melt the doll in the oven? Do you reccomend putting it at a lower temp than what it says, just in case thermometer is wrong?

5. How do you know if the paints are set or not?

6. Do you have to wash the kit and dry it out for 24 hrs before use? I've heard they can be very shiny/oily, and don't want mine to be like that....

7. What size clothing is a 17" generally?

Maybe some of these questions will be answered by the DVD, but i'm anxious to find out now! hehe.

thanks for your help!

I'll try to answer best I can to help

1-yes you can wipe off easliy before you bake
2-yes
3-this is your preference, no right or wrong
4-no ALWAYS bake at the recommended temp use two thermometers if you are in doubt
5-The paints with wipe off if not set. Use a Q-tip and test a small out of the way area to make sure it's set
6-Most reborners do wash before starting

Yes, watch your dvd it's very helpful and will teach you the basics, the forum here is for extra guidance or problems.

Does anyone know roughly how long it will take to make the Zoe kit? I'm keen to get her finished by the end of the weekend!!! Maybe a little overzealous?

Also, is it actually important to wait 24 hrs for it to dry before attempting to paint it? Or will paper towels dry it quicker?

Thanks sooo much for your help!

Hi! You should be able to finish Zoe in a day or two, depending on how much time you have to spend on her and whether or not you're going to root hair. I don't wait 24 hours after washing, I just dry off the parts really well with paper towels and use my hairdryer on low heat to help dry the insides of the arms and legs. Just make sure everything is really dry before you start. I did my first Zoe in one day without rooting, but I'm pretty driven sometimes, LOL! Good luck! Hugs, Melinda

Thanks Melinda! How did your first Zoe turn out? Did it look realistic? I'm thinking of keeping her bald at least for a while...I think she may suit it! When I get into hair I will put some on her.

Yes, I agree... you don't have to wait 24 hours for drying, especially since it will go in the oven. Mostly that's for air-dry paints and oils (other was of reborning).

The little kits (6" - 17") usually go pretty quickly. Expecially if they have closed eyes. I think mine take me 2 days if I keep working on it (except for rooting though). Don't worry if you think you messed it up, with the Genesis we get do-overs! lol

You're very welcome. There's more to learn if you do the search! Lots of people have the same questions so they've probably been answered somewhere in here. But if you don't find it you can always ask. :)
