Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for a while as I had a little girl in February. Actually the poor little thing has been used as my reference. I painted a michael kit by Jaqueline Gwin and matched the colour up as near as I could to her. He has turnrd out really nicely. Only trouble is now (and yes I am getting to my question, LOL) I want to give my Ember another bash (not literrally, He,He).. Ember is my very favourite sculpt and I did one and it turned out O.K ish but I think I can do better now. My question is (finally) , I know you need to use the green to tone down the pink vinyl but is it best to do a couple of layers of the green on its own first or is it better to mix a little of the green with the flesh tone? I've seen some beautiful Embers on ebay (before bb brought out their peach vinyl so they were the pink vinyl) with lovely light complexions but I haven't yet been able to crack it. I would just get myself a peach coloured kit but I can't find any in the U.K and it is too expensive to get one from bb what with the taxes. Any advice on the toning down would be great. I'm NOT going to give up until I get there. thanks.X
Hi Karen Congrats on the new little bundle on your home!! I've done Ember (and working now on a Josie) both pink kits. I always mixed my green with my flesh tones and the coloring turns out great. I always do a couple of layers until I'm satisfied though. I have heard some do straight green washes however to me thats just extra steps you don't need. I posted my Josie in "Works in Progress" If you want to take a look at her coloring

Hi Tina, thanks for the advice. I just had a peek at your Josie and I can see how much lighter the skin tone is from the tops of the leg where it fits inside the body. I will give the flesh a go mixed with a little of the green and see if it turns out better this time. Thanks again. X
It takes some practice in getting the right tone you want but that is the beauty of ghs paints you can keep adding ang adding until you get the look you want. It may take a few layers depending on how much green you start out with in your flesh color. Love to see when your finished. Good luck!
To make the mint wash you use a small amount of phthalo green and fleshtone mix with Odourless Solvent, Make a thin mix and do a few thin layers to tone done. If you think it isn't toneing done enough you may need to add a bit more mint. XXXXX june.
Thanks for helping out with the info ladies! Yes, this is how I teach my students also. If you have to correct, do it WITH the paint mixture, not alone. I indeed does save a step or two! :)
