I started my first reborn doll this past weekend! After looking her over (Lollipop) I think I put too much blushing on the cheeks - looks like she's been out in the cold, cold weather! What's the best way to tone this down?
Also, I tried the eyebrows - painting with GHP - but looking at her now the brows should be higher & a little fuller. How do I remove the eyebrows without disturbing the rest of the face so I can give it another try?
You can apply more of the flesh coloring to help tone down the cheeks. Did you heat set the brows? If not, try to use some of the odorless thinner to take them off.
I thought this weekend I would try more flesh tone to the cheeks - thinking a thin coat might do the trick.
Sad to say, I did heat set the eyebrows. This is a major concern of mine to fix them now but I'm thinking maybe some of the odorless thinner might remove it? Or do I need something a little stronger?
Oh my, being a newbie I'm full of questions, thoughts and problems - but I'm not giving up. Things can only improve from here, right?
I'd be careful when applying the odorless thinner. I did that once and took off more paint than I wanted. You can always add more to your eyebrows to make them fuller. Do you have a pic so we can take a look? I may not be as bad as you think.
Well, here he is! Again, this is my first try and the picture doesn't really show how much redness there actually is; but that seems an easy enough fix.
Now, on to those eyebrows! What was I thinking? Looks like I made a common boo boo by giving him thin, arched eyebrows & maybe a little too low for the Lollipop face. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
This weekend I will be taking him apart, removing the mohair eyelashes & applying more GHS paints. But those eyebrows - oh my!
By the way, this forum is a wealth of information for newbies like me! Thanks again.

I don't mean to be too critical, only helpfull, With your eyebrows, try to remove it with thinners on a toothpic one at a time, the other thing if I can suggest, If you put your thumb on the top of the eye, and draw a line with a pencil, it is called rule of thumb, this is where the eyebrows should start, above the tearduct and finish at the end of the eye. That should be where the brow line is. Your strokes are too short on this baby. The other thing is that most of the kits have a lip line to follow, your edges are a bit blured, when painting the lips try to turn your head upside down, to see from a different angle. I normally start from the lip line and draw the paint into the lips, also use a dry brush to take off access paint her skin colouring looks quite good. Hope these comments are what your looking for. Thanks! All suggestions & tips are greatly appreciated. The 1st attempt at anything is always a learning experience & I can only improve from here - right?
I didn't think about using the toothpick with thinner to try to remove the eyebrows - good suggestion. And great tip on the lips too!
I was lucky enough to attend a class for my first attempt but there is so much that goes into these babies that to try to finish in 7-8 hours is a little rough. I've ordered a dvd from Secrist to learn to micro root the hair (attempted the eyelashes but I'll be pulling these out to fix the other issues.)
I also learned to work in an area with lots of light so I can really see what I'm doing! This makes a big difference in applying the paints!
Sounds like you've all got it covered! As far as the blush being too red (or loud), add just a tiny speck of phthalo green to your fleshtone paint. This is known as the "mint wash" and will color correct and make the cheeks lighter.
Always remember, use less paint, it goes a long way. If you need more, add later. :)
Hi Guys, I too have started my first baby and have almost completed the lower limbs. I put too much blush on them and toned them down with a very thi nlayer of flesh colour. i am using air dry paints and am finding it VERY difficult to apply the blush coat. I am using the pouncing method but get a spotty look rather than a mottled effect. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I also think I'm using too much paint as I have just been on to artist showcase and the babies there dont seem to have very much paint on them. I wll keep going tho' and will post some pics soon. Thank you all! Hugs Cathy

Hopefully you will get some helpful suggestions from those with more experience with the air dry paints.
Or.... does the vendor from whom you purchased the paints have a link that would allow you to ask questions? It would be nice if there was a forum like this one that focused on the air dry paints.
Eagerly looking forward to seeing your pics when you finish.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the advice I will have another go today to tone down if necessary and hopefully will get it right. Linda I purchased this kit from ebay from a member who didnt get time to start it, the paints were with it so im not able to find out much info. However once Ive done this cheapy baby I will start baby Paige, but I want to do her justice and use the best products so I will be investing in some ghs paints, a little nervous of the baking part tho'!!!Although I do make Celebration cakes too, so have to be careful with those too, Im sure it will be fine. Speak again soon, ( I have to say I am enjoying every minute of it even with the odd mistake I'm making. I just dont want to completely ruin what Ive done so far.) Hugs and Snuggles Cathy

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that BB has a tutorial on those paints. If it's not them then it's one of the other popular websites. I would be of more help if I could...
