I really don't like them. Some of it is good but the foundation paint (flesh) is very light and very thick and doesn't go on that easy and if you ask me, the paint containers still were only about 2/3 of the way full. This set will last maybe 2 to 3 babies, I don't care what they say. I have taken the 2 that I have worked on and took off as much as I could and took my BB #3 and #4 and used them and now finally they look better. It's been a horrible week. My husband's youngest son (Luke) and his wife lost their baby son. He was premature..not sure how much, but judging from his size I would say about 24-25 weeks. He lived 6 weeks. When he was born he was 1 lb 1 ounce and he finally hit the 2 pound mark, and then in the next day he died. It was my husband's grandson. I had just got some little things that I had ordered for him..a baby Boo and a NICU gown or rather a long shirt and a little pair of white socks with blue teddy bears. I really thought that after that long he would have made it. Anyway...and then there was the new paint and two new dolls that have driven me completely nutsz...I need some PT for my neck...it's bad and we (mom and I ) have sat up all night long.

My condolences on the death of the baby. That really makes life hard. :(
I'm sorry you don't like the new paints. And I will mention again to the office that they are coming 2/3 full instead of to the top of the pot. It's always a good idea (IMHO) to get the large size of fleshtone paints in addition to what is in the set. It just stands to reason that one would use more of the flesh colors as they are the base for the entire painting experience. I know with the Genesis, I always try to tell everyone to mix them first before using them as they are "thixatropic" which means they are stiff in the jar and become creamy when you mix. Have you tried mixing in the pot before using? I have not had the chance to open my new paints yet so I don't really know the consistency except for what I read on the forum. Sorry.
I did order the large size of the foundation. I didn't think to stir it, but I did put a litte thinner (mineral sp.) on the brush just to get it to move. Maybe it's just been a bad week for me. Actually I bought the set plus an extra 4 pot size in the straw, and I got the p and c in the 35.00 set, plus the large foundation and I have been working on Nicole and another Gumdrop...so it was an expensive order. I'll show pics the next time I come in so you can see them.

This is Good to know. I was really wanting to try these new paints (I use to hate the thinner) but I've adjusted so I think for the time being I stick with my old paints! Finnaly got the hang of mixing them! LOL
Well I don't want someone not trying something because of what I have said. Maybe it was me and another thing is I did put some thinner on with the foundation. The babies came out very, very light...like the one I did at first not using the internal wash. It probably was not the best week to try something new. But I'm getting pretty happy with the outcome, except for a few places that I goofed on. I found out that the oven thermometer that I got from S. must not work right. I had my oven on forever and the needle would not leave the blue area and go into the white areat before the red. So finally I turned my overn to 270 degrees and it still was in the blue area...then I went to 275 and finally it did move to the area that wash marked good. I never ever left any baby in there for over 8 exact minutes. After that baby it looked like it was in the middle of the 'good' area...well.... the baby was 'overdone'. *sigh* The first oven thermometer I bought was in such tiny numbers there was no way I could read it and my eyes are really bad now and I have to have them checked out because they are crossing eyc....or rather I have double vision, which is a hoot when you are driving in the rain and everyone has headlights on. It's pretty bad...I have to shake it off..lol..well that's not the right term, but if I refocus then I"m okay. I think my Nicole (Secrist) is coming out really pretty. I rooted a bit of the hair I want to use and I think it looks pretty. I'll put some pictures in the showcase later.

Newbie here, my name is Pam from Victoria, B.C. Canada. Just finished painting and stuffing body of my first baby on the course #3 kit (Teddy) and will start rooting next. Pleased with the result and liked the premixed paints. I've ordered another baby and this time would like to make it not so pale. I ordered more texture foundation and flesh 08 & 07. Could you tell me what is the order and procedure? Do I put on the foundation and then pounce on a flesh color? (or paint it all over evenly)? Seeing as I haven't used the regular genesis paints what is the ratio of thinner to the flesh? Do I do more than one coat with the flesh and should I use both colors? Love reading these forums and am anxious to learn quite a bit and get better and better. Thanks.
What would be my first choice for you to get information from our search feature. It's at the top of the page, in the red bar. just type in a word (like skintone, basecoat, painting steps, etc) then click on the submit button and it will bring up alllll the topic threads that are associated with your word. Then you can just go through them to find what you need. Next suggestion would be to get "the art of newborning" dvd. It shows you all the steps. My 1st babies were very pale and Mr Secrist used to say they were "northern babies" haha (I live in MN).
For the amt of thinner to paint, you can search that too. There is even a thread on how to use each type of paints (Regular, pre-mixed, etc) Great information!
Give one of both of those suggestions a try and let us know how it goes. HUGS
