newbie rooting one of the minis
Permalink

This is my very first attempt at newborning. I thought I would start with one of the miniatures in case I really messed it up. I finished the painting and I'm pleased with the way that turned out. I am attempting to root with the mohair that I received in the starter kit. it is black. when I root it the head blanches white almost like after the hair is in the color of the baby disappears..does this make sense? Has this happened to anyone else or am I doing something wrong? Thanks
Michelle

Michell, can you post a pic, it might be just that the hair is too dark for the skin tone,Have you held some colours next to the reborn to see if that makes a difference. Pink may bring the colour back into the face, If all else fails and you are not happy with the colour of the hair, then you can change it to a lighter colour with Human hair dyes, as it is a natural fibre like our own. Do try some fabrics against it to see if it takes away the washed out look.

June,
I'm sorry that I didn't make my question clear. The face does not change color, just the top of the head where I am inserting my rooting needle. Once hair is inserted it looks like the vinyl blanches white. Am I trying to root to close together maybe?

I think what is happening is that when you insert the needle with the hair, it actually stretches the head and makes the color seem less. It is a natural occurance. It may come back (partially) when the vinyl relaxes and you are all done.
And yes, you are on the right track... when you put so many holes close together, it can make the color look less.

I'm not sure if I explained it right but I know what you are talking about. Don't worry, it should be ok. We always are the most critical of our own work.

I was thinking... when you look at a human scalp the colour is different from the overall skin??? So I guess this will not be a problem!?
