Heat set matte varnish

Do any of you talented ladies use the heat set matte varnish on your precious little ones? If so, mine didn't come with instructions, so do any one have a clue?

I used it once, thinning it down with the ordorless paint thinner. My baby ended up being chalky, and I couldn't get it off. I won't use it again. I have read that others use it with good results. Janie in Texas

I use it reguarly. I pounce it very lightly on the face. I'm not worried about hands and feet getting shiny. I bake it for 10 minutes, 2 minutes longer than the other paints as it takes longer to cure. If you do too much it will make the skin rough.

Juliette, Could you brush it on with a blush type brush, or the throw away dish cloths like chuxs. June M

this stuff is real thick, I guess you have to use a cloth. I am just wondering, if applied to the doll, does it cure the paint any more, where it is less likely to get damaged. Or is it just to tone down shine?

Is the purpose of this stuff, just for shine control, or does it help the paint not be so delicate to scratch? And you say you pounce it on, with a stipple brush?

It just reduces the shine. The heat set paints should already be set/cured. You can pounce it on with a cosmetic wedge, the same way you would paint. Be sure to stir the stuff before you use it!

I didn't know you had to stir it either, I though that you just used it out of the jar too. June M from Oz

well, now we both learned something. I am still kind of leary to use.The only thing I have that shines, is wrists or lower legs, and not all the time. But the doll still looks good, so I usually don't pay any attention to it.

I use a make up sponge. The same thing I use to paint the doll.  Each layer of paint is cured individually.  It is used to eliminate shine and also to prevent the shine that happens from dressing and undressing the doll.  The paint will not get damaged if cured properly.  It is very different from other paints you may have used in the past.
