Hi all... i am new to reborning and new to the forum.. i have a question for all of yall.... i usually use some caps i got thru BB to seal the ends of my limbs and use something like the sealant i use to seal the hair to make the caps stay in place. this works good, most of the time. there are a couple of issues, 1 is that the epoxy smells to high heaven. 2 sometimes the sealant misses a spot and doesnt seal a place and i dont notice it til too late. i use glass in the limbs (along with plastic pellets and stuffing if it is a full limb), and i dont want the glass granules leaking. anyone have a better idea than the stinking situation i am in?
Victoryah, I do the same with the filling , and use the poly fill on top. After that I cut a circle of calico and glue it with clear craft quick dry glue, that seems to work. Because after that you have you arm or leg cap to tie with your plastic ties ,so I don,t think you will have any leaks. June mM from Oz
I use a piece of cardboard. I cut it to fit under the groove of the limb, then I seal over the top of the cardboard with either E6000 or silicone caulk. Caulk takes forever to dry though.
I used to use the caulk after covering the glassbeads with fiberfil. Took several days to dry. I started using the E600 because it drys in several hours but I like to wait until the next day for the most part. I spread it all around the top of the limb like you would icing a cake.
As for those plugs to prevent a leak I glue all around the inner and outer rim of the limb then press it in place (can be a little messy) and have something to hold it there until it dries.
ty judie i use e6000 but dont like the smell. does it wear off completely? that is my only worry about using that epoxy. i know it is a great item, just stinky. :D
ty, doc said i could do anything i wanted within reason, just dont carry anything heavier than five lbs..... so i had to practice reborning today :D :D :D
i got in the new thinner that precious lullabies was telling us about so i had to practice on a new limb..... must say i am impressed!
