Hi! I am new, wanting to attempt my first doll. I have the doll but I need everything else. I don't want to put a lot of money in my first attempt incase this isn't for me. Can someone please guide me on what I need,, the basics? I don't mind putting money out for the better paint and stuff but I don't want to spends hundreds yet..
Irene, I'm not sure where Delaware is, but what sort of doll do you have, a shop bought one that you have to take apart, or a kit. I'm in Australia, Haven't had the chance to travel except to Nth Ireland in 1987 Where my husband comes from. I got Pheobe and the Gensis mini Paints from on line here, just look at supplies. Hope that helps. June M from Oz.
Delaware is in the USA. I got a store bought Berenguer doll. I wanted to go a little cheaper to see how it went b4 investing money in the kits. Guess I am a bit overwhelmed on what to buy. For my first time I would like someone to tell me what color paints to use and that stuff.
With the Berenguar you have to heat rice in a sock or stocking for 3 mins to soften the vynal or you will break a loot of needles, You need acetone from the hardware to take off the old paint and then wash it in suddy water and rince, make sure it is dry. One girl on the forum today from Morayfield Qld, Aust. did one with water colour pencils, I've been doing mine in Ink, but yesterday tried Genecis, I've purchased three different lots of paints, so I hope my Genesis comes out good, but I do love my Porcelaine ones. I think they are so much easier.( They take longer for students, but because I have for kilns and all the molds , I think it is going to be cheaper for me . Unless I perfect my teckneiques, with Genesis. Just get the basic mini premixed Genisis and start with them. Only thing I didn't get was the green and burnt umber, you my need them , I think. Then you can add a bit to another colour tomake you own change. June M from Oz.
You should at least get the petite pre-mixed paint set (I would go with the strawberrys n cream) set as the Berenguers are a little too orangey for the peaches n cream set). Then a brush set (and an extra 1/2" mop brush), odorless thinner/low odor thinner, some triangle makeup sponges, lashes (as you will take the original ones off), 1/2 round eyes in the size you need, some type of ceramic/porcelain glazed bowls or paint palette, stuffing and weighting material (poly or glass). I think that's all you will need to start, unless I have forgotten something. OH YEAH!!! A DVD on how to paint your baby!
Take a look at the start up sets Secrist offers and see if there's anything else. And if you want to root your baby, some needles and a rooting tool, and of course some mohair, (you may want the rooting DVD too).
