Painting a sculpt?

I didn´t know where to put this question since it is about scuplts. If not in the right place could MODS move it to the correct location

Is there somethings to think about when painting a sculpt made from Polymerclay? What is different?

I have now come to that point where I wonder how my "creatures" will look when they get painted. I´m not really there to actually do it yet but My thaughts have started to work with the idea...

I think the girls use polymer clay to do eyelids and fairy ears, so I think the Genisis should work alright, but you can clean it off if it doesn,t work.weirdface June M from Oz

I was thinking of if there is something different when it is polymerclay and not a vinyl head or limb that is going to be painted?

Genesis is not to be found here in Sweden yet! so we have to use traditional oils and acrylics... not the optimal choice I know... I will ge some genesis when I get to the point when it is time to put some paint on my sculpts...

I just started to sculpt a short time ago and I am just working on my 5:th attempt in all!

Directions for painting the clay should appear on the box. You can use Genesis paints on polymer clay, but you should try to do it in as few layers as possible as repeated baking may make the clay more brittle. On most clays, you can also use oils or acrylics. I would recommend oils though since acrylics can sometimes peel off.

I think there was a section where our Danielle Zweers (sculptor extrordinaire) commented on something else to use and how to do it. You might want to search here in sculpting and also in the painting topic.
HOpefully she will come in and see this. :)

Thanx! i´ll look around....

This really is a challenge!! The clay will get brittle if cooked more than a couple of times... I get my sculpts baked 2-3 times just sculpting for not squasching the face or something else (but the I´m a newbie)
hmm so much to learn and experience....

Yes, it is a lot to learn. Danielle Zweers says to only bake your clay two times. Once to make it hard and cured. The second time for paint. Otherwise it does get brittle and can break more easily.
