I hope someone can help me out here. I have been using my heat gun for setting the genesis paints. But, I read some where yesterday, that if you can use solvent on a rag and wipe an area and the paint comes off, it isn't set. Well, I tried again last night on what I thought was already set, applying more heat to the back of the head on my doll, then used the solvent and the paint still was comiing off. Is there a time limit on using the heat set gun to these babies. And, am I suppose to use the heat set matte varnish on all babies as well?
Hi linda to test your paint hun take a cotton swab and wet it with some water not solvent find an inconspicuious spot (usualy behind back of the head) and wipe a small section, if paint appears on the swab your paint is not set, I do not use a heat gun but have been told by some ladies that they always give a final bake to their baby in the oven just to be sure the paint has set correctly you can go to this link http://www.imageworksstreaming.com/secrist/?urlVar=1 these are secrist mini videos there is one there on using the heat gun that may be able to help you, personaly I only use the matte varnish on my babies if they have a shine to them which is rare, it is used basicaly to take the shine away and give a Matte finish hope this helps and welcome to the forum hun (((hugs)))

I hate heat guns with a passion, I payed $100 aus for the first lot of triplets and instead of doing a last bake ,I used the heat gun and they went very shinny, I'm going to have to strip them and hope the will turn out better. June M from Oz
I wasn't thinking when I posted the first time about the heat guns. But just had a second look at the beautifull baby in pink, I'm just so upset that my photos haven't been as good. but one day. I flooded the forum with them yesterday and today have done a7 1/2 hr round trip to pick up my grandchildren, and cook tea-dinner. Get them dressed for bed and have a bit of peace. I do so hate the driving at my age. But keep those little beauties coming. We are all in waiting or nesting for the next newborn.June M from Oz
Thank u for the complement on my baby. I have done quite a few of them and I am still learning and trying to improve on realizm. I try now to choose babies that are realistic also. I bet all the other artist, like yourself, do the same thing.
I am making Ester for a girl in church. She looked like that when she was a baby and her mother wants to give it to her for christmas. She is 13 years old, and just the greatest kid. She helps me out in vbs. I have used two different babies, as baby Jesus, in the manager scenes, and she just loves these dolls. I think she will take care of Ester, she knows that they are just shelf sitters. You are a good artist also, I see.
There are a few things that don't work any longer, like some links because they are old posts. Some of that stuff only lasts for so long, especially if its an ebay link or like that. Take a look at the left side of the page you are posting on, it shows the date of that post. This one, the last post before yours was Sept of 2008. But thanks for letting us know.
