Genesis Matte Finish on top of acrylic paints
Permalink

Hi everyone,

As I mentioned in another post here my first baby was very shinny from using acrylic paints instead of genesis.  Now that I have my geneis paints do you think it is possible to put the matte varnish on top of my acrylic baby's face to take the shine away and just heat it with my gun to set. Since she already has hair Im sure it would not be advisable to heat her in the oven?  Let me know what all of you think.  She is a cute baby but like I said very very shinny.  I'll post a pic along here with the question.
Thanks
Kathy

The thing naomi knows about is called a magic eraser it is found in the cleaning isle of the supermarket, you apparently wet it and wipe over and the shines gone.

yes its by chux called magic erracer - its for removing drawing on walls etc but works a charm to rmove the shine on a baby without effecting the paint work. Does it work with acrylic painted dolls too?? i don't know, but its probably worth a try???

Kathy, have you tried the eraser and did it work, I'm not sure if you can bake it over the acrylics but I know you can bake the baby in the oven after the hair is rooted. Some teachers, teach painting and doing the hair at the same time. I used AS oil paints and didn't like it but am waiting on my Genesis paints to arrive. I've been using inks since the first two and I don't mind that.weirdfaceJune M from Oz

Just wanted to let you all know that Genesis does NOT recommend using their products with any other kind of paints. So that would be a no for over the top of acrylics. I have corresponded with them many times on all kinds of issues.
So sorry kiddo! It's a no go :(

Since they are acrylics you might try an acrylic "matte" varnish as it's just made for that purpose! I know there are some good ones out there. Duncan makes several good acrylic varnishes. You could also use a "porcelain spray". It's made for porcelain and ceramics stuff. Gives a very matte finish. :)

Glad you ladies figured out the magic eraser issue and Nomes! hope you're feeling better now!

The acrylic paints dont even come close to using GHSP, I have tried them also as well as heat set ink, but GHSP are by far the more natural and easiest to use. And even when using the sm pots you can get at least 5/6 babies painted and then have some colours left. XXXXX June.
