funky mohair colors
Permalink

Hi all,
I need some not-so-common mohair colors like purples, pinks, greens, ect... Does anyone know of a seller that maybe dyes mohair odd colors like that? I found some of the colors I need on ebay, but it's lamb hair and when I asked the seller if the lambs were killed for it she said yes so I couldn't buy it. As far as I have been told, goats are just sheered for their mohair and not killed?

Yes I am in the US, could I get the mohair shipped to the US from Aussie? I really need to get some, but it's so hard to find.

I agree 100%, I can't buy it if it's still attached to the hide.

Notalent , I think you can use food colours to dye with, I know of some crafters here that have used it on laces so it should work on natural fibers, don,t Qoute me though , it,s worth a try on white mohair, because it not that costly if it doesn,t work.weirdfaceJune M from Oz

Thanks Sammi, I will check out the AU ebay.

That's a good idea June, I do have some white mohair that I am not using, I may just try that.

If you're planning on dying your mohair you can also stop by a Sally's Beauty Supply store.  The store where I live sells permanent hair dyes in the colors your looking for.  Just a suggestion. smile

I know on St Patrick's Day here in the US, kids will dye their hair with green Kool Aid (mixed with alcohol) and it's pretty permanent! Looks like martians from outer space EEEKKKKK!!! lol

Hello Pat B, Our first Grandson was born on the 12th July, My Husband is Irish, but dont hold that against me. If he,d stayed in Ireland his family celibrated Orangemans Day. But over here we don,t have any religion as such. We took the 4 Kids over there in1987, and sent them to school for a week and all the other children wanted to know, was what side are you on. Our kids didn,t have a clue what they were talking about.weirdfaceJune M from Oz.

LOL June M...I know this is a really old post, but I had to laugh, my husband's birthday is also july 12, and in the late 40's, the family lived here in toronto. Now my mother in law was Protestant, but my father in law was Catholic, and the kids were raised catholic, and baptised at St. Patricks(!) Catholic Church. My father in law brought the baby in, and said he wanted him baptised. The priest asked the day on which the baby was born ,and was told the 12th of July. The priest with a scandalized look told my dad in law that he had 364 days to pick from, but the baby WAS NOT born on that day. My father in law (half Irish, half french and all stubborn) called the Bishop(!!!) and lo and behold, the bishop baptised my husband ;)

Thats really funny :)
My grandfather on my mom's side is Irish and on St Patricks Day he'd wear all green except he'd wear an orange tie. BTW... his name was James Riley so they'd call him O'Riley! lol

Hmmm....  I've never tried using Kool Aid mixed with alcohol to dye mohair into funky colors as I've never had a need for those colors, but I would love to know how it works just in case.  You are talking about the sugar-free drink mix, right?

Yes that's the Koolaid I'm talking about, the little packages with no sugar added. And it's denatured alcohol. Smells really bad but works. My daughter did her black hair like that. Lasted till it wore out.

Thats some awesome looking colors for that wool! Should make some really cool fairies and knomes I would think (and trolls too) :)
