Ethnic Reborns
Permalink

Okay, it's the middle of the night (or maybe it's morning now), and I am looking at a little brown baby that I want to reborn, but I am a bit unsure of how to do it.

I would like a more in-depth tutorial on how to paint AA and other ethnic babies. I would especially like one that suggested how to mix appropriate lip and blushing colors, as well as what colors to use on the soles and palms. And, as long as I am being demanding, I would really like it if the dvd came with a booklet of color pics that I could use to compare colors to. Oh yes, the whole thing might be even easier if Secrist offered a petite paint set of ethnic lip and blushing colors.

Okay, that's enough whining; I'll stop demading things and go to bed now. lol

Hi Heather, I,m not 100% sure how they paint brown reborns but with French chocolate porcelain, I used to shade them with dark brown or do them lightly with black, I think If you buy a magazine and copy colours from them as I used to, I,d buy the Bambie magazine to get the true colours of different races, or to copy the dressing. and I,d study children and babies when we were out. There was a dark lady that worked in a chemist and her palms and fingernails where pale pink and inside her mouth, I think it will be a little harder to get these colours on a brown baby,  but I don,t think it imposible with a little work. My daughter has an Australian friend with a very dark husband and their baby was born Pink but as they get older they get darker.I,ve got Starling to do so thats going to be my challenge ,but if you have the 2008 Secrist guide to reborning ,theres a picture of her and sparrow, ther lips usually have a little darker line blotted arround the edge. You maybe able to do a lighter wash on the hands, feet and lips before you start shading. I hope this is of some help to you. June M from Oz.

Thanks June. I guess I'll just take a stab at it. The Secrist Dvds do give some information on skin tones, but I was hoping for more in-depth information. I wish I lived in a place where I could see more examples of different skin tones, but most people here are pale skinned and blonde haired. I do have a friend who just had a baby this week that has dark hair, but she is very fair skinned as well. Looking at magazines is a good idea. Maybe I can find some parenting magazines with good baby pics.

If you get our Special reborn encyclopedia DVD: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/34890 You will find half of it is painting an AA dark skinned baby by Michele (the one who painted Sparrow). She has a very different way of painting the darker skinned dolls that I find intreging. The only thing is doesn't offer is how to paint the lighter skin on the palms and soles (I think that's coming in another dvd, but don't quote me lol).

We do also have books on the subject http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/37293

I hope this is of some help to you :)

Honey, in the 2008 Tutorial has used 05 and 03 Genesis HSP, so I have bought them to do Starling, I have checked out real aa babies and they have very light plams and soles but the creases are darker, finger tips are very light, almost white. This week I am going to paint two AA babies as I put my name up for a mothers day swap and got an AA baby to paint. So here goes. Will post picks, along the way. XXXX June.
