Hey All!!! Be sure to check the "Forum News" located in the upper left corner of the forum website here! Just click on "show all" and you will see the latest news Secrist has to offer you!
Any dolls not listed are ineligible for the 2009 Cover Baby but pics may be entered for the back cover instead, shich is a good thing too cause you'll still be seen big-time! (see rules of contest).
Are you making your Sparrow a caucasian baby, bi-racial, or AA?
And don't forget! You can make any doll you want, its just the ones that are listed that are eligible for the coverbaby. And if you don't get coverbaby with those listed but you take 2nd with your baby (listed ones or any of our others) you can still get it on the back cover! (hmmm, I think I'm rambling)
I'm thinking about doing Paddy, Phoebe, or Nighty Nite. And I'm gonna dare to be different... I'm doing my Sparrow as a caucasian baby! Or maybe a light skinned bi-racial. Can't wait to see everyones babies!
Pat, I love your Avatar little boy. He's a real cutie.

Thanks! I love that sculpt. That's my Secrist Hayden (until I change my avatar). I try for a girl but it always comes out "boy" lol I had that outfit in my stash and found a hat that matched and then those little socks! :) I usually do him as an older baby (that sits up by themselves) as he has an older face. He's just old enough to balance himself sitting up (see how his legs are positioned).
Next time I might put my Theresa Anna (AKA: Secrist Teddy) in there. I named her after my granny. People think she is sooo realistic. Haven't had the heart to sell her though.
Too bad ALL of our avatars change when we change them. I wish there was a way to just change them and keep them, then change and all the future ones would use the new pic. Once you post about them and then change the avatar, it looks funny to be talking about which baby that is and it's not the original one you posted about. But....
I love the way he's sitting - just like a real baby does with their legs. Honestly, I can't see Hayden being anything but a boy. For some reason, even though my intention is to make girls, all my babies end up looking like boys too - but I still dress them in girl's clothes.
I mostly make little boys too, but I find that they tend to sell better on Ebay anyway. It seems like most people on there make little girls. Anyway, I like little boys:)
Ya, I have 2 girls and no boys so for me I get my little boy fix! But you really have to look to find any outfits for boys that aren't knits, or sweats. I want cute overalls (not jeans) and shortalls. So now I'm forced (hehehe) to make my own. I have been buying old 40's thru 60's baby patterns off evilbay and once I get my spare room cleaned out I'm going to start sewing again!!!!
Question, which baby would be good for someone new to painting with GHSP to do? I still need to perfect my painting technique, so I don't think I am ready to do something very complex. I wish some of the other 17 inch premies were available to enter because some of them are soooo cute! Sassy is just not my favorite, she is very cute, just not my style I guess. Plus I think that toung would be tough to paint lol!
I would have to say............... Gumbdrop, Taffy, or Zoe would be good for a beginner. Also, we do have test parts to try your GHSP on first if you're worried. Its the same vinyl so at least you know how it will go on the real thing!
Regarding the competition - is it all right to have the head of one kit and the limbs of another - all Secrist, of course? I was wondering about a Louise head teamed with Guppy limbs and body? Would that qualify?
Any of the Secrist dolls are eligible for the contest, so my choice still stands. However, if you are going for cover baby then I would say any of the smaller babies on the list with closed eyes would be good for a newbie :) And it doesn't matter which limbs you use on them as long as they are Secrist limbs.
So, I gather that the Louise head with the Guppy limbs will qualify for the contest - thanks for that. It's not a "given" that I will use that, I might opt for the Petunia, but I thought I'd ask about it because Louise head and Guppy limbs is not exactly "standard", if you understand me.
I am also getting the Brandi Limbs (do you know the limbs I mean?) to go with a diferent head - not for the competition, but just because I LOVE the Brandi limbs - they are really beautiful - I can't wait to see them in ALL sizes now! Thanks so much for them.
I like the Brandi limbs too, though I thought they had a different name before. I am thinking of trying one of the 22 inch doll heads with those limbs. I think the heads are still on the small side, so mix and match with the limbs seems to be the best solution.
Any face, any body, any limbs qualify for the contest (as long as they are Secrist and look good together) Just make sure they look appropriate (I mean don't put a 19" baby with 22" limbs lol). Any of the 14 listed for the cover baby of the year!
So say you don't want to try for cover baby of the year, then you go and do any doll that Secrist makes and maybe you'll get the back cover 3/4 page! That's nuthin to sneeze at. AND 10 honorable mentions with their biz ad in the magazine! I KNOW how much that costs to advertise! Mine is on the inside back cover of the 2008 issue!
