I would start with Zoe. She is closed eyed so you don't have to worry about getting those eyes inserted and she is small and that makes her much easier to paint!

I started with the Secrist Deluxe "Art of Newborning" kit - wonderful - except that I didn't like the needles. I picked a Lollipop to go into that set (I had a choice of premmies). Everything is in the kit that you need - paints, doll kit, eyz lasher, vise and needles - you name it - everything you need. There were even free DVDs on Newborning and Micro-rooting.

It can be expensive as an outlay - but then, getting all the things you need individually could end up by being a lot MORE expensive.

I've since added to the initial kit - mainly paints. Because I'm already an artise (oil paints) I emjoy mixing my own colours. The Genesis Heat Set Paints are so different from my other artists' oil paints though - a whole new ball gam painting on vinyl dolls instead of canvas too - but I'm loving it - completely addicted now! Have fun and enjoy yourself.

I like Zoe too. I am new to this art as well and I have found that sculpt to be a good doll to start with. I would also suggest one of the beginner kits and the Beginner Classroom DVD. It is great to use to get you started if you can't get to an actual class. Just be careful with your oven dials when you bake your baby! (See my Help! post). Good luck and have fun!

The beginner kit gives you way too much, imo. Many of the items can be bought locally. I only order online what I can't buy locally. It is important to support your local businesses. And often their prices are better and many accept coupons!

I know when I put together my list for sculpting I'll be doing price comparison and only purchasing on line what I can't here!

Thank you so much for your answers! and what do you think, is better to buy the genesis heat paint set or the premixed ones (in fact they come in the deluxe starting kit) im afraid...of having everything and doing creepy dolls :( how many ruined dolls in the way..? :) afraid but decided to start. Any suggestion will be great and very apreciated!
Thank you again girls,
Gaby

I would do the premix. You can always remove the paint, worse case scenario.

I think Zoe is a lovely doll kit to start with. Two of my other fav's are Taffy and Gumdrop.  And the pre-mixed petites are just right, you can do a doll and still continue on to do several more with the same paints. If you decide to continue on, you can always graduate to the full sized paints (and you learn to mix your own!). But one step at a time.

Here is the link for that set: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/16840
I like that you get to pick your favorite from 5 of our sleeping 17" babies. At first you had to take what they gave you but now you get to pick! And it has the basics and shouldn't break the bank on price. All you need to add is the stuffing and pellets (and of course an outfit, no nakie babies here lol).

I have done just about every baby they offer. Each time I do one even if I've done that one before, looks totally different that before. It's amazing!

A nice thing about Genesis... you get do-overs if you goof up don't like it!

Thank you for your advice! i think is very intelligent to try first with the basic kit. Like you said one step at the time. And what about the hair? i guess i need the rooting kit as well dont i? this is an investment but i know it worths it, im going to be addicted! im very excited about the idea of starting rebornig and i want to run, so your advice was very intelligent and apropiate for me! lol

Here is the link for the basic rooting kit: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/16881

Or you can chose a better grade mohair: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/3912 blonde, black, or white
http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/32464 or specialty mohair (better grade) many colors to choose from;
then your rooting tool http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/34027 or http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/34027
(I like the plastic handle better than the wood one even if it costs more) and you need to decide if you like the smaller wood or the larger plastic handle better. Also if you get the wood one, get pre-cut needles  (the other needles- L shaped at the end- are for the plastic one).

Only other thing I think you would need is the rooting DVD http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/6361 and the Beginner classroom training DVD: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/29044
You can get the Newborning I but I like this one better, more detail and closeups.

Hope this helps you
