hmm... that is a new one to me. Try sanding it with fine grit sand paper. It sounds like you have a built up layer.

Try baking it for 3-5 minutes at the usual baking temp. Sometimes it just needs a little more baking.

Thank you for your advice. I tried baking it again and it's still there. I also tried lightly sanding and it does help but it also takes other layers of paint off. I ended up repainting and it's fine now. I have been working on my third baby "Tanner" from BB. I just finished painting him yesterday and decided not to use the matte varnish. I applied it to one of his legs and it started doing the same thing before I baked it. I can't figure out why it's turning white like this. I stir the sealer and follow the instructions exact. weirdface

I think that the matte was the one that had been changed by Genesis and for a while everyone's was doing that. They then went back to the original formula and it cured it. But with yours (especially only a foot) I'm thinking maybe it wasn't pounced in enough. If it is a little thicker than extra thin, sometimes it can do that, or if you miss a spot (like the foot).

Remember, don't add any thinner either. Just straight from the jar (stirred) and pounced very thin.

A little while ago genesis made a change to their matt varnish formula dont quote me but I think stephanie sullivan knows a bit about this and why etc, it could be that you are using a jar of the old mix as alot of people had this problem with it encluding me, when i bought a new jar of the later mix this problem stopped happening, the matte varnish was created to take the shine of the oil paintings that artist paint so unless my doll is shiny i personaly dont use it (((hugs)))

Someone made the comment here to NOT thin the Matte finish. Mine is extremely thick in the jar and would not know how you wouldu use it unless you did thin it. Please respond with the correct procedure. I used it thinnned on my 2nd baby and it seemed to be fine. I'm just confused now as to what is the right way to use it. The air dry glossy vanrish for the nail is runny so I don't thin that.

i havent used the matte varnish myself but im assuming its like all the genisis paints where it has to be stired well befor use, i know when i go to use my 1oz flesh its almost like leather until i stir it up then it becomes creamy, i also have read it needs to be baked a bit longer so as to not go a hazy look

I don't even use the matte finish and i don't see why ppl do... why do you guys use the matte finish, to me its an un-ness layer that i've often heard people have later regreted as its messed up on them and they've ended up having to strip everything and lost all the other work thay have done.

the matte varnish is so the doll won't get shiny. sometimes even handling the doll can make it shiny. it's not supposed to be thinned..you just hav to make sure you don't put it on too thickly and make sure you bake it longer or it will get a chalky looking film over it. if you do put it on to thickly i think you just pounce over it so it will thin. hope this helped! :]

using thinners with matte varnish is a debatable subject in the reborn world bit like people adding lanulas(half moons) to fingers and toes it is a personal choice, some artists mix the matte varnish with paint to get some really cool skin effects too, ive used it all three ways just to experiment and now like Naomi i dont use it at all, i got complaints from some customers on the sandy grity feel it leaves on the baby skin and discovered more people prefer it if i dont use it, we have to rember that genesis wasnt origionaly designed for painting vinyl the matte varnish is for shiny spots on a canvas painting and to give certain parts of the painting a dimensional look, so back to the question hehehe personal choice if thinners is helping you add your matte varnish to your baby and you like the effect it is giving in my personal opinion use it that way alot of artist do use it that way and will get the same result as those that dont use any thinners at all ((((hugs)))) im of my soapy box now ehhehe

forgot to mention the shinny of the doll Naomi has a great tip that helps to erase that dont you naomi? :)
