Something for Secrist to add to their Inventory!

These special spoons are used for adding mediums to GHSP, mixing the paints, etc. They are not something easily found in stores and when ordering them alone the shipping is more than the spoons! I wanted to suggest Secrist including them in their inventory. This is what they look like but it appears that Ace Hardware sells them in bulk.

have you used them???

I use the popical stick to add a scoop of paint to my "egg cup" (yes i use ceramic egg cups to mix/hold my paints, works quite effectivly as i can make up bulk amounts, i mix my own paints tints so its best to mix in bulk so i can have the same colour tints match all over the baby - head and limbs). I then blend/mix the paint and thinner with an old small, flat paint brush (about the size of your pinkie nail).

I've not used them because the only places I can find them want more for shipping than for the cost of the spoons. I'm sorry, but there is no way it cost $6-8 to ship those little aluminum spoons! I get stubborn that way when it comes to shipping ;)

I have found that some of the brushes that came with my Secrist Deluxe Starter Kit "Art of Newborning" have a sort-of spade shape at the other end from the brush end rather than just a pointed end. These "spade-ended" brushes are ideal for picking up a "pinch" or a "smidgeon" of paint to put into my pallette. I also have tiny pallette knives which I bought for my "painting on canvas" artwork - they work beautifully too. A spoon would be a bit of a nuisance - you'd have to scrape the paint out with something else, whereas with the paintbrush "spade-end" or pallette knife you can just scrape the paint directly into the pallette.

I went to Winter Wonderland Doll show on the 14/15th  it was a pretty poor turn out.  Barely covered costs so you might as well say , we gave our goods away. There was 5/6 reborner stalls and I dont think many stall holders made much money. About four years ago we took up to 2500 dollars and the competion room was full, now it,s all spread out. The reborn dolls were all done with Genisis but they looked powdery is that the case, as I have never used it yet. When I was making porcelain dolls, the comp room was full. There was only about 5 reborns on the tables and two reborn sculpts from a Margaret Mousa. they were quite good. None of them were dressed by the maker. Is that how comps are every where else. when I put my porcelain dolls in they had to be dressed by the maker, not bought baby or kids cloths.weirdfaceJune M fromOz

 I'm biding my time.  I need that yellow ochre paint but I don't want to paint shipping on just that.  So I'm keeping on eye on Stephanie, Secrist, and BB to see who is going to stock a combination of what I need most!   My next project (after completing my rooting) is Sparrow.  I'm dying to start her and scared to death, too!

Sparrow - a dark-skinned baby - wow. I'm interested in that too - I'm going to try out painting a toy doll and see if I can get a dark-skinned baby. Does Sparrow come already dark-skinned, or do you have to paint her so?

I'll have to paint her. The sculpt is designed by an African-American artist. I fell in love as soon as I saw her!

I'm still working that out.  I purchased a magazine (which shall remain nameless -- nothing that Secrist sells, though) which claimed to have a tutorial on doing ethnic baby skins but when I got it the tutorial was very poorly done. It was missing about half of the instructions.

Secrist does sell a book or CD (we have a choice) that does have how to do ethnic skin tones that I'll purchase.  The author is well respected.
I found it in their 2008 catalog.

She will be available as a Secrist new AA vinyl blank the end of this summer. Saves lots of painting steps if you are doing an AA or bi-racial baby. Watch for it!

And, sorry to say we will not be getting the little measuring spoons (I got the word from the office today). But at least you know where to find them if you want to purchase them.
