Hello!
I've just begun this beautiful art and love it!!!! But I have a few questions??? How do you get more of a fleshy pink tone? How is the mottling done so perfect? How do you add more realism to your babies (i'm asking what you do personally)? and I'm going to attempt a reborn that would reflect a child with a complex heart condition but need some colouring advice. (my son has hypoplastic left heart syndrome and i want to colour my baby with his skin tone) These kids have a greyish colour skin and are prodominately blue around the eyes and mouth, the nose, the toes and the finger tips. Stork bites are more purplish due to the blue tinge. Any help would be greatly appreciated, step by step would be awesome!
Thanks
Chantele

Chantele, I know exactly what you are talking about!!  My eldest daughter was born with a similar heart condition, as was her eldest daughter.  Both doing okay, although Mom is due for some surgery to replace a valve this summer.

As for how to do the doll, I would start with a fairly strong blue internal wash.  Go easy the first time and darken it as you need to for the skin tone you want.  When you are painting your skin tones on the outside keep them pale and use a hint of blue with your skin tones to make them truer.  As you work through the layers make your blue a little stronger in the areas around they eyes, toes, forehead, and fingers... you may even want to paint in a few more blue blood vessels then the "normal" baby would get.  Take a photo or two of your son to use as a guide.  I'm the crazy reborn artist who likes to try out my flesh colors on my grandkids and myself, and although I don't suggest doing that with your son, you could try out colors on the back of your hand or wrist to test the colors.  Make your layers very thin and make sure each coat is dry before you put on the next.  GO SLOW!!  You will have less  chance for a mistake that way.  Remember, if you don't like the results of a particular coat just wipe it off and start again.  The paint is not "fixed" until it has been heated.
Hope this helps...   Dragon
