Full body vinyl doll kit
Permalink

I'm getting the full vinyl doll kit "Louise" and I am very excited about it. What I would like now is ANOTHER full body doll kit - a boy - and with open eyes - the same size as Louise - I really LOVE Danielle's "Phoebe", and have a reborned one that a very talented lady, Kerry Harvey (Kezza's Babies), newborned for me. Would it be at all possible for Danielle to create this baby? Please?

Your Website says that Danielle sculpted "Louise" - hence:

"This adorable little gem was sculpted by Danielle Zweers.  Louise comes in Secrist own "translucent vinyl" giving your doll a more most lifelike look then other vinyl.

Louise is about 15" long and comes with your choice of 1/4 length vinyl limbs or an all vinyl body (1/4 length vinyl limbs pictured below).  The cloth body is jointed like all Secrist cloth bodies"

Actually to my knowledge, Danielle only sculpted the head for Louise, not the body. I'm not sure who sculpted the body and limbs. I am hoping that Secrist will ask her to sculpt another head for that full vinyl body, yes, maybe an open-eyed one :)

My Louise kit has arrived - yes the head is gorgeous - but, either it is too small, or the body and limbs are way too big. Did the head go to the wrong body and limbs somehow? The ankles on the legs are too thick, and the body is too fat - which is wrong, is the head too small or the rest too big - it has to be one or the other? I'd like the body and limbs to be much smaller.

If, as you say, Danielle did the head - could I get the body and limbs she sculpted to go with the head - she would not have sculpted just the head, would she? Please help?

I'd also love an open-eyed one. I've just reborned a cheap "made in china" doll - full vinyl body head and limbs. It looked truly ugly in the "before" pic:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=155417673

but I love her now; unfortunately I have no digi camera so can't take pics.

What I'd like to say is that this doll is beautifully proportioned - big head - proportionately, just like REAL babies.

Thanks for all the help on this Forum - it is EXCELLENT in every way and I very much appreciate all the help I'm getting from it (the Forum).

I have heard other people comment that the body for Louise is too big for her head.

Yes, the body and limbs are too big for the head - also, the ankles are too thick...not rolls of baby fat, just thick ankles. So, what could fix it is the same head, only bigger - quite a bit bigger, too to keep the true baby proportions correct. Thinner ankles would be nice also.

However, it IS lovely to have a full vinyl kit - I'd also like full limbs on most kits instead of just 3/4 limbs, but thinner, as little baby legs (just born) are.

Could a bigger head, the same model, be arranged please? I'd love that. Or a smaller body and limbs? That would be even better - I love small babies.

I just had a look at the Jody limbs - they are lovely - would they fit the Louise baby?

OK, lets see if I can answer all your questions here...

Yes, I too think that Danielle's Louise head is lovely. We have spoken about the head looking too small for that body. Yes, she did only sculpt the head and no body (hard to believe isn't it?). But you do what your boss asks of you.

What I thought was to use the limbs with a cloth body (you'd have to get one for full limbs) and then use the vinyl body as tummy/tushy plates. That might offset the look a little, make her look more proportionate.

We don't make anatomical bodies so you'd just have to call one a boy and one a girl. We don't have anyone (to my knowledge) that will sculpt those types of bodies for us. Know anyone who might?

With Louise they have tried to focus on the "chubby baby limbs" that everyone seemed to be asking for. A lot of doll people said the other limbs were not chubby and asked for new ones.

I love Danielle's new limbs for Jodie! I think those are the best since NumNUm and Sleepy. Very realistic and proportionate. I think those limbs would be too long for Louise. She is only 15" and they are for a 19" doll. It might make her head look even smaller. They are supposed to be coming out with new 17" & 22" limbs this year. I think the 17" limbs would be a closer match.

OK I hope I got it all here. If not, ask me whatever I left out. :)

Thanks Pat C - I guess it's a matter of "You can't please everyone" then - Would it be possible to make the new Jody limbs proportionately smaller? I don't like "plates" much - Perhaps I'll just go ahead and newborn her as she is, as there does not seem to be a solution at the moment. As I said, the head is gorgeous - but everything else is too big, proportionately.

Does Secrist HAVE a cloth body for a 15" doll with full limbs please?

Meanwhile, I'll practise on reborning baby dolls ... something might come up in the meantime.

Sculpting sounds exciting to me. When I finally get the hang on newborning, I'd love to try my hand at that too.

You might want to look at other limbs from other doll companies -- both for a bigger head to go with the body and smaller limbs to go with the head!

Thanks for those ideas. I'm thinking now that the 12" body slip and matching limbs - meant for the Guppy and Giggles - I think that they might do the trick - and a Tayla head from Bountiful Babies might solve it at the other end? Thanks for the suggestion - I don't want to use the 1/4 limb option - I don't like 1/4 limbs - that's why I got full vinyl body in the first place. I was so excited about it having full body and limbs - but was disappointed when I found the proportions to be so badly out.

I don't like the 1/4 body limbs, either. I won't do a doll if that is my only option!

Thank you for understanding. I think the 1/4 limbs are best if you're making a child's toy - so cuddly - but they are not very good for showing off a doll or pretty summer dresses. I've decided that the way to go is: put Louise head with the 12" body and limbs and - put the Louise body and limbs with Tayla head and neckpiece - two dolls in proportion. Thanks so much for this suggestion.

OOPS! I'm Pat B. :o Pat C is the other one (not moderator lol). hehehe

Yes, it definately is a "you can't please all the people..."

We have in the works new limbs for the 17" babies but nothing smaller (not to say that someone won't make us some but nothing right now). It would be great to have Jodie limbs smaller :)

We don't have a "full limb" cloth body. YOu might want to check with BB I know they have some (not sure about 15" though, but definately full limb). It would be nice if we could have one made for us now that we have the full limbs.

I like the 1/4 limbs cause it makes the babies cuddlier! There's more room for polyfil to make them squishy and comfey feeling! But to each their own I say. I also like the full limbs because they can wear the shorter outfits.
