I'm just about finished with my first baby. I spent all day yesterday finishing up my rooting. I sealed the inside with Aleenes Tacky Glue and let it dry overnight. This morning when I brush the hair I'm getting a lot of hair on the brush. I watched the Secrist rooting dvd and did everything exact, the only difference was I used the ultra fine 42 gauge needles instead of the 38 gauge. Is this hair loss normal or should I reseal the hair with something else? I don't want all the hair to fall out down the road! Is it better to use the 38 gauge needles?
If this is the first time that you have combed thorugh it after sealing it with glue...I think it is normal. When I rooted my dolls hair I waited to comb through it after I sealed it and some hair did come out...I think it was from some hair that stuck to the other hair while rooting, and some was from when I went in at an angle and didn't go all the way through. It is ok now and I can lightly brush and style with no problem.
This is pretty normal. Stephanie Sullivan suggest using a boars bristle brush to brush through it while rooting and especially afterwards. This will get any random and loose hairs out. You may still experience some hair loss after gluing but this should be minimal due to the brush not getting all the little hairs that were not rooted or sealed.
I brush mine as i'm rooting, you'll always get some shedding - and if you haven't brushed through it before now then the shedding could seem like allot as its all in the one go. As for the influence of needles size and hair shedding I've never heard or experienced that the needle gauge has any role in this.
The needle gage really just influences the number of hairs rooted in each follicle and on the harder vinyls how much of a puncture entry can be seen. The soft vinyls seem to close back in around the hair more than the hard vinyls do.
So what your seeing is completely normal, no need to panic... but it never hurts to seal the hair a second... or even third time.
I also brush (comb, actually) as I'm going along. I guess that is why I've never had a lot come out. I do it to make sure it is working the way I want it to, not intentionally to remove lose hairs!
It can be if you make sure you brush your glue inside the head so as to coat allllll the little hairs in there. And it also depends on what glue you're using and how thick it is in the first place.
