Hi there!! I started reborning 2 months ago and just finished my second baby (Hope)! I would like to know from you what is the best way to start selling them. Would E-bay be the best way? Do I take the baby to stores (need courage for that!!!) pretending she is real? How did you sell your first baby? https://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk134/Attannav/?action=view¤t=d71d808f.pbr
Youe baby is a cutie! I mostly sell mine on Ebay because I live in a state with very low population, but I think many people sell dolls through their own websites and/or at craft fairs, You might well get better prices at craft fairs ssince you will likely be the only reborner there.
I don't recommend ebay as many beautiful and well done doll are not selling. It seems that the best way to sell them is either by word of mouth or through a craft show.
Thank you for the advices! I'll go out with my doll tomorrow and try to get some feedback at some stores and visit some friends during the weekend! Hope we will all sell our creations and make the reborn art more and more admired!
Very nice baby! I like to see when people do Hope. She takes a special hand (IMHO) and I now think I'm going to add more hair to mine and keep it longer!
I take my babies places all the time, but I do make sure I have biz cards with me. I don't exactly try to make people think they are real, but I do treat them with care as I would a real baby. As artists we put a lot into these babies and I feel if it's art it gets cared for differently (JMO).
I have also been doing art/craft shows for 19 years so I do have a following; but take them out, get the publics reaction. Then I give a brief explanation of how I make a reborn. They don't want to know all the details usually, just a quick what I do (ie: 10-15 translucent layers of heat set paint, weight, insert 1-3 hairs at a time with a special needle, put in eyes, etc), just basic not big details.
I also had some in a consignment shop and they sold there. And I have a website but it's not like the movie says, "if you build it they will come!". You have to advertise one way or another.
Thank you for the compliments!! My husband picked up baby Hope...kind of challenging, but I tried my best.
I'm almost ready to take the baby outside, I got some business cards and created a brochure explaining the process, options, etc.. The website is going, but the best part of all this is to keep choosing doll kits, start the reborning process and see the final product - the cutest babies/dolls on earth!!!!!
I'm wondering if you tried yet. It is a little scary to take something one has created into public to see how people react. After you do it a couple times it isn't too bad -- unless you don't like getting attention. I had a doll in a meeting afterschool. Everyone I work with knew it was a doll but we had a presenter who thought he was a real baby! Best afterschool meeting I've ever been to.
Hi!! Yes, you're totally right about the scary part...! This week is the challenging one! Father's day around the corner, shopping mall is packed and I'll go shopping with my baby (doll). Hopefully I'll get some custom orders and start my next precious piece of art. I am also thinking about placing adds on Craigslit. People around here do a lot of business with them. I'll let you know if it works!
