We do have a tutorial CD that comes with our Beginner Classroom training DVD. It has printable pages that show all of the steps you do and they are in color. It has a full page of suggested vein placement http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/29044
It is the Beginner Clasroom Training DVD and it should have come with a separate CD showing photo sheets and telling steps about it. Here is the link: http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/29044 See if this is the one you have, it's not "The Art of Newborning" DVD that we first came out with.
Hi there; Yes this is the same DVD that I received and there is just the one DVD in the case! I also have the Advanced Classroom one too with just one DVD. I got them both with an order from Ontario (MacPherson) the Canadian Secrist Dealer. How could I get this CD???? Thanks.
We have always offered the CD with the beginner classroom. And you really should have gotten it because you have both DVD's. It comes in a little white CD envelope. I would contact MacP's and let them know that you didn't receive yours and that's how we have always offered them. The CD goes with the beginner DVD. Maybe it was just an oversite.
I agree with Danielle though! The very best way to know about vein placement is to look at your own veins (and real baby's veins to if available). I'm sure MacP's will take care of your missing CD
I have these DVDs and CD - but the DVDs keep rolling (so I can hear but not see) and I keep getting error warnings in the CD - so I have sent them all back to Robyn (poor dear Robyn) to see if she can make some sense of it. However I DID manage to print a few pages before I sent it back (pp 1-18 - but with many pages missing because of errors). In these few pages I got some excellent charts showing where to put veins - wonderful! (the vein charts I mean - I don't know what the problems are with DVDs and CD)
I just use myself as model. It of course depends on how light/dark your skin is and how close to the surface of your skin your veins are! As far as I know veins don't change positions as we age...
i'm extreamely pail myself and extreamely thin so my veins are ultra visable, i use this as a guide. But actually tone it down allot on my babies b/c no one would normally have so many veins showing as i do!!!
I never do the same veining, i just have some general areas that i emphasise on my babies- back of hands, under side of wrist, in the elbow crease, may be a slight one or two on the top side of the arm extending from the ones on back of hand (have these somewhat visable on the hand, but almost non-existant as the fade lighter once past the wrist joint.
I'll vein my temples and very lightly in the forehead, maybe extending from the middle of the eye, up through the eyelid and into the forhead.
maybe some in the bridge between the eyes -- depending on the age of the babe, the older then then less i'd likely to do this area.
One or two flowing ove the knee cap, top of the foot and fading out up the shin (like in back of hand/top of wrist), down the ankles to the underside of the foot.
in the back of the knee bend.
the inner top of the thigh (this is a major blood vessle)
remember to fade out the veins - veins arn't usually really visable and then just stop, they weave to our skin surface and slowly fade away in areas where there is more body tissue.
veins are also never straight lines, they have a natral curve and weave, the split to forks, they are dark in one spot, then may go really light and then dark again.
I'd recomment to keep them really light, you can always add some more colour after your skin tones have gone over the top if you can't see them enough. but remember subtle is more natural.
Hi Naomi: Yes you have been very helpful and I really appreciate it. I have heard of some artists that do the veining after the skin colour and blush is applied. I will be trying it out very soon! ...and I will keep it subtle....Hugs ....Katharine
your welcome, i tend to end up always doing a bit of both. i'll lay the veins down first, but often end up adding a little more colour in after also.
here is one i currently have listed - about half way down the listing i have a few close ups of just the feet and hands and if you look you'll see the way i've done the veining on this little one
I have just ordered on ebay the DVD beginners classroom but they have sent me the art of newborning I have this one already is it the same DVD as I thought the beginners said beinners on the front on the DVD
Hi Jackie: No, it is a different one. The Beginner Classroom DVD also should have a Tutorial CD for your computer as well. The CD has printable charts for veins and hair placement and stuff. Th Classroom DVD is just Pat Secrist and the Tutorial CD goes along with it. You can pause the Classroom DVD and do your painting and then go back to the DVD and do another step...then pause again until that step is done! It really is a one to one teacher and student learning. I hope this helps....Katharine
Hi Naomi: Thanks for the link...wow the colouring is great and the veining too. What you have done to the eyes is just fantastic....You are very creative! I Like tha new look!
OK - after all that, I DO have a veins question. I am getting a beautiful "Louise" kit, with the full vinyl body. I have maps from the CD about where to put veins on head, face, arms and legs - but no map for baby's body. Where to the veins go on baby's body please?
Usually just like real babies... shoulder around the area of the collarbone where the skin is naturally thin, the upper chest, and the tummy (a few top and sides).
I've done some veining on a tummy plate - open the link in my signature "photo album" if you scroll down almost half way from the top you'll come across a boy with a little yellow jacket and nappy on - jacket open and t-shirt pulled up showing his tummy. If you open these pic's for a large view of the photo, you will be able to see some light tummy veining around the belly button etc. Its only a small tummy plate - not a full torso like the secrist Louise but it might give you a starting point.
that said i'm planning to start work on a euro berenger with full vinyl torso tomorrow - if your interested i'll link you some pics once i lay down the veins on mine.
Hi, what paints should I use for the veins? Would it be possible to use the periwinkle blue internal wash paint that's premixed, either alone or add another paint to it? Thanks.

What paints would I use to get a turquoise color? Anything I can add to the periwinkle blue internal wash paint to get it? Thanks.

Would Pthalo Green paint work with the Periwinkle Blue to make the turquoise? I don't know anything about mixing paints, sorry. :) Actually, the Pthalo Green looks a bit turquoise-ish to me already. What would the ratio be to mix these? If anyone has any other tips about this, I'd be glad to know. If I could, I'd like to use just the pre-mixed Periwinkle Blue alone, so that I don't have to buy another color. I will be buying Burnt Umber and Flesh 07 and 08 and the strawberry paints too, so could I use any of these to mix with the Periwinkle Blue? Thank you all so much. I really appreciate all the tips here.
