I like the look of veins. However I hate to paint them on.
To make things easier and smoother is it possible to draw them on using something like an oil based colored pencil?
This would help so much in doing the little red capularies too. You can get a much finer sharper tip on a pencil then a paint brush. It something like this possible?
There is a certain brand of colored pencils that you can draw the eyebrows on to your baby and they will become permanent. I'll have to find that name and get back to you with it. I'm sure one of that same brand in a vein blue and a capillary red would work fine. I'll go find that brand name...
Sorry it took so long, couldn't find mine... The brand of colored pencil some people use is: Prismacolor. I have a blue and also a brown (veins and brows). Just draw them on and let set for a day. Then wash/rinse off the leftovers. It should soak into the vinyl. Now I'm not sure about baking but I think it will work (I mean under your other colors of Genesis). I do the brows last so I don't bake after that.
So far the colored pencil I used for the eyebrows hasn't migrated from where I put it on the doll but what I say is a suggestion. You may want to try it on a scrap limb or an old doll.
Is the color pencil easy to wipe off if you happen to make a mistake? I looked at my Berol pencils....They say they are permanate...I will compare it to the prismacolor.
i've heard a you can use water colour pencils, but it said you have to paint over them with matt varnish after they've dryed :) in the photos i've seen it looks pretty good :)
Welcome Freya, I use water color pencils for brows and sometimes veins,I don't wet them I just make sure they are sharp if I mess up I wipe it off with a damp Q tip dry it and try again then I let it stay a day or two then I dab on matt varnish let dry and go from there I haven't had any problems, I use air dry paints it's better for me because I am forgetful I probably would burn my babies. I plan on trying the GHSPs when I invest in a tabletop oven so it can be right in my work area then I could keep and eye on it . Have fun making your babies, I just love this art form, I am hooked .
That's what I have always used and it doesn't come off...you have to be ready to dab it with paint thinner. I use General Kimberly's Watercolor pencils. I use them for veins (blue) and caps. I use the purple. After you wet it, you need to blot it just a little bit. Works fantastic..Now for the brows, I use a different kind of pencil. Sometimes I use my eyeliner pencils that are waterproff and I also use Prismacolor watercolor pencils for brows, but really, my personal one has a green top on it and it works the best for me. I use a dark blonde or light brown.

I use the pencils as well for both veining and brows. It works wonderfully for me. I paint right over them and bake with no ill effects. I have babies over two years old using this method and they look as great as the day they were reborn.
Aren't the pencils great?! I like them too. Stephanie Sullivan first brought them to our attention. If you have any questions you might want to contact her too!
It takes a bit of waiting for the pencil to sink in and become permanent (Prismacolor) but I too think it's great that you can just draw them on!
Some artists put the thick medium on first with no paint (when painting brows) under it, then apply the brow paint over that! I usually put the paint on first but that is just the way I was taught at Secrist when I became a certified teacher through them.
