Melted/sunken ankle...

Hoping I can get a quick response to this.

I'm new to reborning, and have bought an older but still capable (so I thought) at working mini oven. I fully admit I made a mistake here. I have an oven thermometer in with my BB kit... and it didn't seem to go up high enough so yep, I fiddled with the temperature. I was watching the whole time and noticed it look pinker, immediately pulled it out but the ankle has lost some of its strength and it's a bit glossy on the limb up to the thigh where it probably was about to melt a little. Naturally I'm absolutely guttered.
I'm wondering if it's safe to continue working with this leg. It cost me a lot of money and I've only veined so I'm right at the beginning. Literally feel sick right now.

Please give me some good news ...

Chelle.

Well, I thought I had come in here and answered this but it must have been on one of those days when when my left hand wasn't working well or my laptop got aa glitch, so I apologize for the wait hun.

There are a few recommendations I an make, anyone else is welcome to add theirs too!

You could always go to the BB site and just order another leg(s), then just start that one over. I think they have 2nds or blems that just have something tiny wrong with them but usually I haven't noticed anything that would really show. Just it's not up to their standards.

Q... are you using fereinheight or centegrade? I don't know what regeon you are in. I was just wondering about the temp thing, as most ovens go much hotter than we use for temp. Maybe explain what type of oven it is.

You could also try reheating the leg, but not quite to the point you baked it before. Some vinyl has a "memory" and when heated, will go back to it's original shape.

If that doesn't work, try baking it with some cotton stuffed in that area of the leg so that when it heats up, the vinyl will expand out again.

Last recommendation would be to use some sculpy clay or prosculpt to add to the vinyl to fill in that area, then bake and paint.

As far as the shiny, I would wash the leg in hot soapy water, probably with dawn dish soap, then rinse well. When it's all dry, use some anti shine on the leg, bake according to directions, do NOT add any thinner to the no shine, use as is. This should remove the shiny.

I hope this helps you out hun. Let us know how it worked

Sorry I never came in and replied to this myself. I carried on with the process, just not leaving it in the oven for as long. I now have sorted a good temperature on the oven (and marked it so I never go past it haha) and so fingers crossed there's no more botch up jobs! She turned out okay in the end. I got over being discouraged and finished her, she was a great learners doll! She now belongs to the young girl in my house, and so having a melted leg is the least of her worries (granted her new Mummy is very careful with her)!
Thanks so much for your advice! I'll use it if I ever have to again!!

Oh, thats ok. Glad everything turned out for you hun. I see you are in New Zealand, so you would use the celcius temp for your babies. Be sure to try to get as close to the recommended temp and for the time it states, otherwise your paint may or may not become permanent. This is directly from Genesis (who created heat set paints).
Also, if you want some other answers or to learn anything else, go to the top of the page and click on "search". That will take you to any posts that are about your subject.
