My name is Chelsea! I've purchased my first reborn beginner kit and I'm exicted to be starting my new kit.
I've always been interested in reborning for a little while now and this is my first attempt on making my own reborn baby.
Questions:
1. What thinners do you use with Genesis paints... I have some that came with the kit but I don't like the consistency of the paint and I've been looking around other forums to find the right one and am having trouble finding one at a local hobby or art store.
2. Would it be ok to do 2 base coats of paint of the flesh tone paint? I want it to look real and not chalky. I've done the veins and the base coat but I don't know why for some reason it looks kind of light but I know when adding paint your adding layers and that the paint might enhanced later on in the proccess.
Hello ccangel and welcome to our family forum. We are always glad to have new people join and ask questions!
On the thinner to use, it kind of depends on what country you are in. I have noticed that some reborners outside the USA have trouble finding the thinner a lot of us use here. So they have to use others that are available to them, but that are compatable with the heat-set paints. If you purchased your paints from Secrist, it also depends on which paints you have... some already have thinner in them. Also, you must stir your paints before using so they will loosen up and get creamy.
If you go to the top of the page, you will see "search" in the red bar. Just click on that, type in your word or words, then click search. It will bring up all the topic threads with that subject, then you just read through them to find what you are looking for.
I usually do about 2-3 base coat layers, of course very thin so I don't get the dreaded "chalkies" lol. If your baby is coming out too light for your taste, you are probably using flesh 08, so you might want to do 1 of 08, next 07, then maybe another 08. My babies usually have about 10-12 layers of paint on them, be sure to bake inbetween each coat. Your best bet would be to purchase a beginning reborning dvd or book and work along with it. Or take a class, if there are any in your area. You can also search something like: layers, chalkies, etc to get more information.
Thank you so much for your reply. Right now I'm using Turpentine oil as a thinner and its fine so far, I'm trying to make it through the smell though lol. I'm going to look into getting another dvd though my kit came with one it doesn't help to have more than one reference to look back to. Thanks again for answering my questions!! :)
Chelsea, here is a link from using the "search" feature at the top of the page (in the red bar), I just typed in thinner and here is what I got (lots of threads to read through): http://www.secrist.activeboard.com/p/results/
