My name is Stefanie and I've been knowing about reborning for quiet some time. I just found the guts to try it myself. I don't have that much money to buy the real deals, so I improvise a lot.I buy my babies at the thriftstore, clean them off and use Acrylic paint to paint the babies and seal it off with sealer, which make my babies all shiny. :( I am more then open to feedback on how to make the babies work. I've done 2 babies so far. The first one I redid 3 times till I was ok with him, the 2. one was a little easier but I've been told she looks "bloody Scary".

welcome to this fun art form and forum........and please know that most of our first babies were less then brill but thru learning ......ebooks , tutorials and advice we've all improved. so hang in there ! as to baby being shiny i believe i saw a sealer by delta that was a satin sealer that may help.........truthfuly tho i would be saveing my pennies and switch to ghsp........after your 1st ghsp baby you'll be hooked........jmo.........sage
Good suggestion Sage :D Its great to practice on "previously loved" dolls as most of us have, and also using the acrylic paints is a good way to practice on your technique. Be sure not to paint (look in "search" to find threads on this). As far as the sealer, I believe Delta also offers a matte sealer, or maybe Ceramcoat (sp?). One suggestion you could try in the heat set paints area is one of the petite paint kits. This would be less expensive and would give you an idea of how it goes without laying out a bunch of money to start with. As Sage said... you'll be hooked for sure lol
I'll try to save up for heat paints, but it's Gonna take a while. But I finished my first real reborn yesterday and it was so much easier then with those store bought babies.
You could also try some of the petite 3 paint containers. That is relatively inexpensive to start with. Glad you are happy with the ease of using non-store bought babies. In the long run I think it really is less expensive because you don't have to buy stuff to remove the paint, and the quality is better. Just don't use Goof-Off! You can post some pics of your first reborn in the artist showcase.
Hi, Im also new. (Live in UK). Ive done 3 airdry babies - not very successfully!!! One looked like Chucky from the horror movies. Just done 2 genesis paint babies, Ive had much more success here. I know the paint is more expensive but you only use a small amount. I paid £30 for a halogen cooker and that included postage. Im not sure I'll attempt rooting again though
Hello and welcome to our forum. Sounds like you are a busy person. New & 3 babies! The thing I like most about the heat set paints is you can get several do-overs if need be. lol Rooting successfully takes time and patience (and decent needles/hair) so don't give up hun! :D
