Hi all, I'm Adrienne and fairly new to reborning. I have a bunch of questions that maybe some of you can help me with.
1--what tool does everyone use for rooting? is it the mushroom vise, that new clover pen or the round felting tool thing with the 5 needles? are all felting needles universal for every tool or do certain ones go to certain tools? are the cut needles better than uncut?
2--i see mohair being used but can the curly doll hair like what you see in Michaels be used as well? I thought i had seen somewhere that someone said something about hair plugs can be made too? how do you go about doing that? I have an older doll(patti playpal and my size barbie) that i'd like to be able to do that to.
3--I have a Berjusa(looks like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/380452297014?ss ... 1438.l2649) in PARTS. The little ring thingys that held his limbs on have walked off and have NO CLUE how to get him back together. I've been to lowes to try and come up with something, you should have seen the odd looks I was getting LOL, and haven't been able to find ANYTHING. Anyone have any ideas??
4--Also was given a few dolls and the head and limbs are in GREAT shape but the bodies are no good and OF COURSE they're the sewn on limbs. I'm not big on the idea of just gluing the limbs to the zip ties, I'd much rather have the hands and feet be able to turn like the heads. I saw the plugs on the BB site but have no idea how to measure for them. Is it like measuring for eyes??
5-- paints. My hubby bought me the secrist premixed and it says NOT to use thinner. I've seen some of the mottling and OH I LOVE IT!! Has anyone used the secrist premixeds for mottling and ethnic babies and if so how without using the thinner??
Hello and welcome to our forum. I know you're just going to love it here. Everyone is friendly and willing to help with issues. :)
Most of your questions (and learning) can be found by going to the top of the page, clicking on "search" in the red bar, then typing in your word(s) and click the button. It will bring up all the threads where you can find the information you need to answer your questions. Most of the subjects have already been discussed in detail here in our forum so we don't like to keep posting about the same question if it's already been answered hun.
I'm going to start with your question 5... The premixed paints are great! You can do anything with them that you can do with all the other paints. The reason why you can't use them with thinner is because they already contain thinner. If you add more it will dilute the consistancy of the pigments in the paints. If you search "paints" or "no thinner needed" or something to that effect, you will be brought to the pages about paints. I posted the differences in the types of paints Secrist carries. You can also get a tutorial sheet on how to use those paints. :D
4... Those dolls are usually Berenguers (play dolls) and we mostly put new bodies on them anyway. There is a thread in forum on suggestions of how to attach those limbs. Use the search feature hun. As far as the plugs from BB, I'm not sure why you would want them for those dolls. If I'm thinking of the right ones, they are just used to plug the end of the limb so the pellets/polyfil doesn't come out.
3... I'm sorry, I guess I don't have any suggestions on this one. Maybe June (sarazata) might have some good ones. She's pretty good about that stuff as she still creates porcelain dolls along with reborns. She might be able to come up with something for you.
2... It would be ok to use the craft store synthetic hair on the Barbie and Patty Playpal as they have that kind of hair anyway. But I wouldn't try it on any doll you were going to make into a reborn baby, it's not realistic at all. In reborning we try not to have any "plugs" of hair and to have no more than 3 hairs in any hair hole. I once redid a clown doll for a woman, and it had a block of wood in the body. It looked good with the synthetic dolly hair from the craft store.
1... Rooting tools are individual to everyone. We all have our favorites. All needles are not created equal. You can search needles, rooting, mohair, favorites, etc and see what you get. There are many threads for each of the topics. Cut needles are the same as the uncut, just that the L is cut off the end to fit in some needle holders.
Thanks for that. It was very helpful. I will use the search as soon as i dont have a child yellin MOM or a husband yellin HON everytime i turn around LOL.
